THE CHALLENGE:
For the past two years, the Spectrum Headquarters site fan fiction challenges have been a success - and a very interesting experience, for me, the readers and hopefully the writers who had produced, during those challenges wonderful stories for everyone to enjoy.
Last year, LadyHawke had proposed the End Credits Challenge, which is still an ongoing all-year feature (if you're interested, check the related page!). And so this year, I'll be presenting a new all-year Fan Fiction Challenge. A new kind of Challenge.
The "Multiverse Challenge" is now officially launched, and will call for you to use your most wild imagination to write a different, original kind of story.
A 'multiverse story' is a story that will take the familiar characters and setting of the Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons series, and put them in new, unfamiliar times, places and situations. It's a story where something had changed from the Captain Scarlet universe that we know - where things, subtly or not, are... different from our usual perspective.
What if Captain Scarlet had never escaped the Mysterons? What if one of the others had been Mysteronised instead? What if Captain Black had not fired on the Mysterons' Complex? What could happen if the characters from the Scarlet universe were to encounter characters from another fandom - not necessary a Gerry Anderson related one? And what if our favorite heroes should evolve in another era, far in the past, or in a close future?
There are many names to define those kind of stories. Parallel World. Other Dimension. Uchrony. Crossover. 'What if?' Elseworldsã. The name 'Multiverse' was chosen because it includes all the preceding terms.
If you want examples of what defines a 'Multiverse story', follow this link, or go to the bottom of this page, to check the list of stories that were already posted on this site before the Challenge.
Whether you use the characters from our familiar Captain Scarlet universe and propel them into a strange new one in which they found themselves lost or show us characters perfectly at ease with their surrounding world is up to you.
Can you rise to the challenge?
TO PARTICIPATE:
Rules and conditions:
As always, the same general rules as any fan fiction challenge project apply, that is:
- Even though the story will take the characters into unfamiliar surroundings, it should still keep true and faithful to the Captain Scarlet mythos.
- The story could be as short as one page, or as long as you wish.
- Slash stories will not be accepted.
- Accepted will be one-shot stories, or two or three-parts maximum. If more than one part, note that, to avoid an unfinished story, all the parts should be completed before posting.
- The story will be accessible to the public once it had been read by the webmaster and/or beta-reader (if any) and accepted into the Challenge.
- There is no limit of time to submit a story, as it is a long-year event. Nor there is limit in the number of stories you wish to submit, if ever you feel inspired!
STILL THE SPECIAL NOTE: multi-parts stories , or stories out of theme, that will come along, WILL NOT be refused, but they will not be considered part of this project.
Remember that all the information presented on the Spectrum Headquarters site can serve as tool to help you write your story, whenever you need useful details for it. If there is a question the site does not answer, feel free to write me.
As always, submitted projects will be presented on this page - so people will know what they can be expect soon.
I hope a lot of you will feel inspired enough to participate in this new, different challenge, and present a story that I'm sure we will all enjoy.
People interested to contribute, or just to tell me what they think of this project, can communicate with me at this site regular e-mail scarlet1bishop@hotmail.com.
