NCS Captain Ochre Questions

I am still new to this site so please bear with me and forgive my ignorance. Is there a backstory for Captain Ochre (Elaine McGee) anywhere? I have the information from "authorised" sources but perhaps there is more in fan fiction? From watching the CGI series I see that she has knowledge of explosives. Is this a reference to the Captain Ochre in Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons? I remember reading somewhere that he was an explosives expert. Finally, why does Elaine keep losing her utility belt? Sometimes she has one as part of the uniform, sometimes not. You would think as a full-fledged Spectrum Captain she would need it!

Unfortunaly, the Captain Ochre page doesn't list her as being an expert in explosives - although, it might indeed be mentioned in some of the fan fiction stories that had been written so far about her. You can all find them in the fan fiction pages. There is one specifically for NCS here: http://www.spectrum-headquarters.com/sk ... iction.htm. I think you'll easily find the Captain Ochre's related ones by reading the summaries. There's a little less than a hundred NCS so far, so easy enough to go through the list!

As said above, there's very litte information on the characters of NCS, contrary to the characters of the classic series. The reason for this is that the classic series had a variety of many background media to brought all that information to the public, the TV21 magazine being the first.

Even considering how infortunate there is, it could still be viewed as something good for the fan fiction writers, who then can create little details like that, as long as it doesn't clash with what is known of the characters.

According to the information found on the Captain Ochre from the classic series (http://www.spectrum-headquarters.com/captain_ochre.html), he is not listed as an expert in explosives, but one could assume that while in the WGPC, he had to deal with the bomb squad one way or the other. The same could be said for NCS Ochre, if you look at her background.

It is very interesting to notice that both characters come from a similar police background.

In Achilles Messenger, Ochre and Blue are looking for a bomb that ends up being in a water tank at the top of a building, and when they acually see the bomb, she comments that she won't have the time to defuse it, so Blue takes the whole tank with a Hummingbird and goes to dump it into the water.

So she says it herself that she can handle explosives.

I always thought she was Spectrum's specialist for that -- they would need one anyway.

I'd imagine the mystery of the disappearing utility belt could well be down to our old friend 'Continuity Bloomers'.
Such interesting little quirks litter the original series too. Isn't it nice they kept some of the traditions going? :wink:

I noticed that Green also lost her belt a few times. Maybe they're in such a hurry to do their jobs in the morning they run out of their quarters like that?

To go back to Animikkii's original question- not a great deal is known about NCS Ochre's background. In my fiction, I portrayed her as a veteran of the British Army ( I decided she was from Belfast, rather than Dublin). That was before I read the updated Gerry Anderson episode guide which described her as a former undercover member of the European Police Agency. Hey-ho, I guess she could have been both! ;-$

There are a couple of episodes in which she seems to take an interest in weapons/heavy artillery, so I think it is reasonable to assume that could be her speciality. Beyond that, I think her character is down to whatever take fanfic writers want to put on it, as it seems unlikely we'll get anymore official material. Write away, people!

To everyone who helped answer my question and point me in several directions, thank you! I read somewhere (source?) that in the original series comics Captain Ochre was an explosives expert. Don't quote me on that--I can't locate the source. Too much reading trying to come up to speed with everyone who has been a fan longer than I have. Working on it, though putting most of my energy into NCS.
