How indestructible is Scarlet?
Moderator: Spectrum Strike Force
- He was killed during his fall from the Car-View - of which he revived, free of the Mysteron control.
Scarlet can die - temporarily. And then he will revive. See various episodes of the series.
Concerning Fawn's comments - it probably refers to those two events, mentioned above, and you can add to those:
- The bullet who struck Scarlet before he fell (okay, he screams ont he way down, but if he had not fallen off the Car Vu, he might have died from the wound afterward anyway...)
- And receiving tons of wreckage on top of him after the fall (It's some kind of miracle they were actually able to find the body after that!)
Each of these events, taken separately, was enough to kill Scarlet - but as the expression goes, he could have been killed several times over.

This link might also answer a few more of the questions you've been asking yourself.

I know Scarlet and Mysterons are vulnerable to electricity, is this high voltage only that is capable of killibg a human being, or would smaller amount kill him. Also if he was killed by electrocution could he revive from that or would he be permenantely destroyed?

This has always puzzled me. Okay, so he was killed falling from the Car-vu, and in the car crash... But that isn't several times is it?
I tend to agree with Chris's last comment (Quote:Each of these events, taken separately, was enough to kill Scarlet - but as the expression goes, he could have been killed several times over. End Quote) - I think Fawn was using the phrase 'killed several times over' to express the opinion that any one of the incidents, from the original car crash to the burial beneath the Car-Vu wreckage, would have been enough to kill a man 'several times over'...
In regard to Scarlet's vulnerablility to electricity - he does survive an encounter with electricity on the operation table (Operation Time) and he tackles the Mysteron at the power booster station in 'Noose of Ice' to save Blue and the mine at the North Pole. He mentions there, when told the output is 100,000 volts, that it is 'dangerously high' - even for him!
There is no proof that Scarlet would irrevocably die if he was electrocuted - although Mysteron agents do seem to die when it is done to them. There have been several theories why this might (or might not) happen. Most of them have to do with the fact that Scarlet is no longer under Mysteron control.
Whatever the truth is - Spectrum are not likely to take the risk of experimenting to see what voltage he could survive...

Hmm I'm far from convinced, but I'll go with it for now...

If Scarlet were to die/be injured somewhere very remote and was trapped there for a significant period of time without food, would he eventually die permanently of starvation? After all, even Retrometabolism needs some kind of energy input.

Somehow I suspect it might not take much energy (if it's energy they need) for the Mysterons to keep him alive. In fact sunlight might be enough to keep him going. Just a thought, anyway.

In their book, Chris Drake and Graeme Bassett refer to Captain Scarlet as 'like a walking solar battery...constantly recharging himself from the sun's rays, ready for his next dual with death'.
Sounds reasonable to me.
I had a stab at a situation with Scarlet trapped without food in a story of my own:
He's trapped in an underground cave with a Spectrum Lt. (female) I wrote:
She was resourceful and young and, if he couldn’t find a way out, she would surely starve to death and so would he, of course, although - he shuddered at the thought - he would probably revive and starve all over again… getting weaker each time until even his retrometabolism failed.
Just a thought...

I have often wondered...
if Capt Scarlet's retrometabolism caused a 'reboot' back to his own memories etc, what if he 'died' again? Could the Mysterons attempt to regain control of him?

I know that this has been dealt with in fanfic by several different authors, and there seems to be a general consensus that his human persona is strong enough to retain control of the retrometabolised body.
Two stories that come to mind as dealing with this issue pretty head-on are Marion Woods' "The Ghost in the Machine" and Colonel Chris Bishop's "Dead Man's Gambit".
I'm sure there are others too, but I can't think of them offhand.

"Scarleteers", Gracie?

Anways, welcome aboard!!

To answer your question, there are several schools of thought concerning that.
It is theoretically possible for them to regain control. However, the Mysterons MIGHT have initially abandoned Scarlet, when he failed in his attempt to assassinate the World President. (The jury is still undecided on the exact details of his release from Mysteron control)
Secondly, The Mysterons might not even want to consider trying to regain control of Scarlet anyway....he would be too much of a liabilty to them, especially when the Mysterons can very easily find some other poor unsuspecting individuals to do their bidding for them.

In fact - in the Doctor Brodsky adventure - Blue isn't sure Scarlet would have survived the blowing up of the concert hall, either. But then, Blue always worries too much about whether Scarlet's gonna make it or not .
(my apologies - I never can remember the titles of those stories ...)
Hmm not sure about the Goliath one Marion, I think the second one is 'Captain Scarlet Is Indestructible!'
He probably survived that as long as he wasn't to near the explosives. I'm pretty sure of that

The comics themselves where rather unsure, in 'Noose of ice'Scarlet is shown holding onto electrical cable as the curent passes through him and he's body is recover and he makes a full recovery.
