Have just been reading some of the original reviews of Instrument of Destruction ( OK, cheating, I know ) and got quite intrigued at the Age War being waged. So, I have to declare proudly that I am a first-generation Spectronite, there from the very first episode ( indeed, it was so long ago, most of them have disappeared into the ether ) and as I made my entrance into the world at the beginning of 1955, I rather think I take the biscuit in the longevity stakes.

Unless, of course, someone knows differently....... !

You are not alone, Skybase Girl - there is quite a cluster of us from around 1955 to - say- 1965. I don't suppose all of the group are as rabidly anti-NCS as the die-hards amongst us are!
I have more or less consigned NCS to oblivion - I didn't enjoy it much and I'm so entrenched in the original series, I don't like to muddy my consciousness with 'alternatives'. [That won't be news to anyone, I'm sure. However, it is still nice to think that there are people who like CS because of it - even if part of me thinks: poor misguided souls! :wink:

I shall, however, be watching the posts in the new reviews with interest, to see if you can spark my curiosity enough for me to dig the DVDs out from the bookcase and take another look. :wink:

LOL I'm only 15 though, but I loved OCS before I saw NCS

Great to hear that there are still OCS fans amongst the younger generations :-D

Says me - I'm the 'younger generation' too - I'm 22.

Yes! I know a few people from the 'younger generation' who like OCS, or NCS. Myself...I am a number that is between 16 and 18...and remember being forced by my father to watch OCS re-runs when I was little. I seem to recall a truck going over a cliff in a snowy area...
Know your roots, I say, as a diehard NCS fan, and a 'medium' fan of OCS...

I don't have all the DVDs of OCS and I did try to tape the episodes I don't have when they were repeated on Sky One some time ago. Can't say I've watched them all the way through, though.

I don't have trouble separating the two series in my head, but I think I was too firmly entrenched in NCS by then to be inspired by the original, at least for writing purposes. Still, you never know ! I like reading everyone else's OCS stuff, so I might try it myself sometime.

As for the younger generation, I think it's surprising that people in their twenties are interested in either. I don't think I would have bothered with NCS had I not loved the original and been curious as to what the new one would be like. My twenty-something son, however, was never interested in any TV21 productions and pronounced the CGI series as "rubbish". Clearly, mistakes have been made in his upbringing !

I have to say, i was glued to the tv with NCS!! It is one off the best things that i have seen!! It's fantastic!!! And i wished that it was promoted properly so it could off got the reconition it deserved!! But it wasnt, so i hate ITV for that!!!!

OCS is one of my favorite Gerry Anderson series and when I heard about NCS I was nervous but excited but after the first 2 parts I remained cautious. It was after a few more episodes that the series started to really impress me and I am interested to see if the episodes hold up story wise for me after a couple of years.

I'm a number between 15 and 17 and just over a months time, I'll be that number plus 1. And I can just remember the re-run of the OCS episode Special Assignment... I think its 'cos of the bit where Scarlet shot Blue with a tranq rather than a bullet.

23 myself, watched the BBC 2 re-runs in the mid 90s. I was a bigger on Thunderbirds then, and had a lot of Thunderbirds stuff - the wallpaper, diecast models, Channel 5 VHS tapes... Now I'm more of a Captain Scarlet man. I was really excited when they announced the CGI series, and really enjoyed that too. Although when compared to OCS, you cant help but have a few little gripes about the new series. I'm sad enough to know most of the dialogue in most OCS episodes I've watched them that many times!

Don't worry, I find it terribly easy to quote things, I can quote some of OCS although I havnt seen it that much.

Heck, I can quote some of Spidey 3 and I've only seen that twice!

I'm worse. I know almost all the words from NCS, and can quote any episode, word for word... :cry:

Don't know whether that's a talent, or just plain annoying...
