Tanning
Moderator: Spectrum Strike Force
The question is: Can Captain Scarlet get a suntan?
We all know that retrometabolism heals any wounds he receives. That's my problem; one the one hand, a suntan is not in itself a 'wound'. On the other, tanning is a defense mechanism to protect against the sun's harmful rays, and with retrometabolism, Scarlet certainly doesn't need it.
Any thoughts?

How lovely, not having to bother with sunblock and UV filters...

I'd envy Captain Scarlet if his retrometabolism can heal him if he gets sunburn. Lucky... person
that's madness with a little 'm'... as in 'crazy'...

Still, if it has already been determined that Black was technically NOT Mysteronized, why would he look so pale? You'd think that it would almost be a dead giveaway that he IS a Mysteron, wouldn't it?

Then again it was a pretty instant thing during 'the mysterons', perhaps it's a design feature on the mysterons part [so they know who's under their control].
Total speculation of course.

Furthermore, we never see him die (at least in the TV series...) and the Mysterons teleport him out of danger when things get too hot (or make him disappear, whatever... I think he's been teleported). Why taking such good care of this particular agent, if he's indestructible?
It might be that he's not. Quite like a normal human being.
It's a theory - and I think it's a plausible one.

Perhaps the other agents are so close to their 'original selves' because they have to be. So that they can get on with things without attracting much suspicion. Where as yes Black is set apart from the others as part of his punishment. Or maybe he was a prototype of sorts, being the first person they took over.
From a vignette of mine ...
In the early days of the ‘war of nerves’ the Mysterons were masterful in their reconstructions, they carefully preserved the soul. Then for some reason decided to stop. Perhaps it was to iron out the glitch they’d had with loosing power over Scarlet. It seemed to make the reconstructions easier to work with; they had no resistance, will or potential for being ‘repossessed’.
Black envied them that; not to feel, impotently question, to ‘think about what they’d done’. His soul had been retained, yet he was powerless to act with it. For it to ever be more than a ghost in a machine. He has written this off as part of his punishment.

As for Captain Scarlet, I suppose he'd tan normally despite his Retometabolism. But it would prevent him from burning.
