Corgi Die Cast Models - CGI and Classic
Moderator: Spectrum Strike Force
Corgi are also set to expand their Gerry Anderson die-cast series at the end of September with the release of six Captain Scarlet vehicles - the Spectrum Saloon Car, Spectrum Pursuit Vehicle and Angel Interceptor from the original Supermarionation show, and the Cheetah, Rhino and White Falcon Interceptor from the new Hypermarionation show. These vehicles will be available packaged both as individual vehicles and in sets.
It concerns me a little that I can only see the Rhino and the SPV on the Corgi website so I was wondering if there was any further news.
Also, does anyone know why both sets of models are due to come out at the same time? Was it thought that the CGI series would trigger an interest in the old series so that the classic vehicles would be sold on the back of it?
Alternatively, does anyone know if the BBC are planning to show a rerun of the Classic series and that the new classic vehicles were prompted by such a transmission? Maybe the idea was to schedule Classic on BBC2 at the exact same time as CGI on ITV.
Perhaps on Christmas Day there are going to be a lot of confused children and parents! Those children expecting CGI models getting the Classic ones and those expecting the Classic getting the CGI versions. Father Christmas will be getting a bad name!

This is one thing I'm slightly worried about (especially as I am one of the many investors in Gerry Anderson Productions plc).
I was hoping that merchandising companies such as Corgi who up to now have produced stuff for the old series would have cancelled any product from the original series. This would have resulted in a clear and unopposed run for NCS merchandising and therefore lead to no confusion with the original. My worry is that with the lack of promotion of the new series on TV, kids and parents will get confused with what they see and eventually buy in the shops at Christmas.

I have no faith in Corgi making a good job of these.I ve seen the abomination that passes for their FAB 1.Truly awful!
Always found it puzzling why Corgi never won the original merchandising rights back in 1966.The old Corgi were a truly brilliant company, and given the exposure they had in TV 21 every week,it s puzzling.
I m waiting on the Product Enterprises SPV due out around the end of October. That will be the last word in die-cast SPVs!
