Is There A Conclusion To The Series In Other Media?
Moderator: Spectrum Strike Force
I recently re-watched the original Captain Scarlet after picking it up on the itv DVD set (Which looks fantastic on my PS4!). I was delighted to watch the series and for someone who rarely watches TV it was a treat. however, by Episode 31-32 it seems like we get no form of actual conclusion - We nearly do with the Attack on the Cloudbase Episode, until they cop out and claim it was all a dream. The Inquisition isn't a bad concept for an episode, it was a good little mystery, but offers no form of conclusion to the series.
Looking online, I see there are other forms of media for the property:
Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons 50th Anniversary Audio Drama Series Boxed Set:
https://shop.gerryanderson.co.uk/collec ... -boxed-set
This set offers CD versions of Audio Drama adaptations of some Episodes & a few unique tales in the Mini-Albhums:
Introducing Captain Scarlet by Angus P Allan
Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons by Angus P Allan
Captain Scarlet is Indestructible by Richard O'Neill
Captain Scarlet of Spectrum by Angus P Allan
Captain Scarlet versus Captain Black by Richard O'Neill
Captain Scarlet versus Captain Black - This one in particular has caught my interest...
Then there is the 3 novels which have been recently adapted into Audio Dramas in the Spectrum Files:
https://shop.gerryanderson.co.uk/collec ... ama-series
I'm not expecting much of a conclusion form this but still interested.
I've seen also there have been TV Episodes combined & altered into movies:
Captain Scarlet vs. the Mysterons (1980) - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0352228/
Revenge of the Mysterons from Mars (1981) - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1272026/
I see on the Captain Scarlet Versus the Mysterons movie, they take the Attack on Cloudbase episode and have an extras speech from the Mysterons, but it's still not very conclusive.

I also see on the IMDB pace for the series, there is a quote from the Mysterons:
The Mysterons: [Their last line, from series finale]
This is the voice of the Mysterons. We know you can hear us, Earthmen. The powers of the Mysterons are infinite. We can distort space and time. We have shown you the consequences of your primitive and aggressive behavior. It has been decided by our Imperial Council that a peaceful settlement with the planet Earth might someday be possible. So we will spare you. Be warned, Earthmen: Your warlike behavior can only result in disaster for your planet. One day, the Mysterons will return. We hope you will be ready. Someday...
I don't rememebr hearing this in The Inquisition, where is this quote from???
The other media I hear about is Comic Strips, are there still active links to see all these? & Do they have any form of conclusion to offer?
That's all the media I can find on the series, but none seem to lead to an actual conclusion to my knowledge, so if you know of anything I'd be grateful to hear from you. I'm considering looking into the New Captain Scarlet Series, even though it is a Reboot.

In TV21 there was an end of the War of Nerves story....and of course there are many fan fiction versions that you can read on this site :-)
Like many other Captain Scarlet episodes, interpretation of what, why , how and where things happened are very much in the eye of the beholder.

So the TV21 Comic Strips do end the Story? Is there a particular Issue that does this? & Is it available to see online? Also was this authorized by Gerry Anderson himself?
I'm just baffled by the difficulty in find any sort of conclusion to the series, I never heard of it being canceled prior to watching or have found anything discussing it. Curious to what happend at the end of the production to make it end like that.

As for TV21, Alan Fennell was the man in charge for the first few years, but eventually when readership declined and frankly IMO that was due to lowering standards in printing and content, with various mergers with other comics the writing was on the wall and it became a matter of ending the various stories by issue 242 which was the last before TV21 drastically changed even more...and not for the better. Check it out on Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TV_Century_21 There are other sources of info on the net as well.
The best place for issues is: https://britishcomics.wordpress.com/201 ... entury-21/
I advise caution re buying any of the comic download DVDs advertised online as they are often incomplete, have been filched from other sources without permission or the disks are poorly formatted and may not work.
We tend to think of closing episodes in TV shows as quite common in a 'final Season', but that wasn't necessarily the case in the 1960s. The same applies to comics. In the end, you just have to accept that was the way it was in those days.

Thanks for the link though I see not all episodes are available. The British Comics site has all the TV21 comics (including the later ones with little or no Anderson content) plus the Specials and Annuals. I have delved into scans of the comics on occasions, but that is because though I have a set of TV21 comics (1-242) plus the specials and my original Annuals (which have been added to), some of my comics need to be handled with care so for research I prefer to look for any info online.
It never bothered me that the Mysterons were rather nebulous. After some of the weird aliens in Fireball XL5 a pair of green rings is almost a relief.

I've also been checking through some of my reference books for more information on the TV21 comic strip. Here's a quote from Chris Bentley's "Captain Scarlet: The Vault" which you may find useful. It discusses the Captain Scarlet story featured in issues 234 to 238, which "brought surprising closure to the war of nerves, with cosmic rays proving effective in immobilising the Mysterons' retrometabolism computers at their Martian complex, forcing them to abandon their mission of vengeance and flee the solar system."
The book also states that there was one final Scarlet strip in TV21 (issues 239 to 242), in which Spectrum fights a new threat, "revolutionaries from the planet Arcturon". Spectrum manages to solve the dispute peacefully, but after issue 242 the magazine was rebranded and the Scarlet strip was dropped from its line-up.
Hopefully some of that proves interesting. I agree that the lack of a definite conclusion in the TV series feels odd, but I suppose it's a good thing in a way. More grist for the fanfiction mill

The cool think about this Software is you can extract the pages as images! So I have now save all the Captain Scarlet segments as JPEG & Bitmap - Might even print them out at work next week
