A Captain Scarlet (Original) Challenge.
Moderator: Spectrum Strike Force

2. There are 5 sets of 2 wheels on either side of the vehicle - 3 large/2 smaller sets, according to the diagram in the CS annual, anyway. Maybe the different size of the wheels are intended to play a part in the traction needed for the multiple terrains the vehicle is supposed to be able to cross, or as back-ups in case of power failure, as each wheel has its own motor?
3. Didn't know this one off-hand and have had no chance to check it, although I thought it might be a 'Challenge of 5' story, so I won't pretend I knew this one.
Bonus question: I think it might happen in 'Flight to Atlantica' at the FIRST party - the one that gets them all in trouble...

Meanwhile here is Set Twenty-One’s questions
1: Captains Gray, Magenta and Ochre are sent to Switzerland in which episode?
.....Special Assignment
.....Treble Cross
.....Flight 104
.....Codename Europa
2: What type of engines do the Angel Interceptors use?
3: How come Captain Scarlet’s mind/soul was able to come back after the fall from the Car-view tower? This story gives one reason: Captain Black’s mind/soul (trapped within the Mysterons’ computers, after his encounter with them on Mars) assists Scarlet to stay aware of himself and helps him to reconnect with his body after the fall.
What is the story called and who’s its author?

Set 21
1: Flight 104
2. According to the 1967 manual: the Angel interceptors are powered by twin turbojet compressors feeding rear mounted ram jets
3. Haven't a clue..sadly. But I want to know so I can read it again!
ps: It's DEFINITELY Flight to Atlantica where all the Angels are present in the conference room, Colonel White obviously doesn't know where his staff are..tut tut....

1: It is in this episode that we hear Captain Scarlet use Captain Blue’s real name for the first time while on duty. Which one is it?
.....Manhunt.
At the moment I can’t think of any other episodes where it happens.
2: How many wheels does a Spectrum Pursuit Vehicle have?
......20 - 5 pairs each side.
Graham Bleathman’s book of cross-sections shows tandem wheels on each of the axles. How many wheels drive the caterpillar-tracks are not clearly shown but it seem as that it could be 8 or 12 depending it each one had 2 or 3 wheels driving them, but I didn’t count those.
chrisbishop wrote: That is a tricky question! It actually has TWENTY wheels - as 10 sets of 2 wheels. However, it's said that the SPV is six-wheeled drive - perhaps they count the caperpillar set?

It might be that the big wheels are the ones with power, which is why it's six wheel drive.
3: In this set of five stories: Scarlet gets suck up a tree, Blue almost drowns and Destiny launches a verbal attack at the planet of Mars. What is the title of the series and who wrote them?
.....The ‘Sometimes’ series. By Shades.
chrisbishop wrote: Absolutely loved those short stories!
It’s a set I loved as well. The first one had me laughing (I can just imagine those captains play around like kids.) the other four are rather good too.
Bonus Question:
There are two episodes where all five Angles are in the same room at the same time and it is not the Amber room. Which episodes are they?
.....The Mysterons
.....Flight to the Atlantic
Chris you were right until you discounted ‘Flight to the Atlantic’ all the Angles were at the first party (the one that got all of them, the captains and angles) into trouble. Well done to Marion who got both of them.

1: An insignia for one of the world’s armed forces bases - seen as an upside-down equilateral triangle made up of four smaller triangles (red, white, dark blue and light blue) - is used in which episode?
.....Avalanche
.....Point 783
.....Noose of Ice
.....Flight to Atlantica.
2:In which vehicle would you find Zyolitic crystals?
3: This one time author, wrote a lovely Captain Brown Christmas story. Where he is challenged to give up smoking. So who wrote it and what is the name of the story?
Points are still coming

All I can answer at this moment is time is Number 3:
'Have you got a Light?' by Marizel.
I ought perhaps to add that, according to the website: ‘Marizel’ is the nom de plume of two authors whose work is already on the Spectrum HQ website.

1. This insignia can be seen on Atlantica Control Tower in "Flight to Atlantica".
2. If you meant "Zyolithic" crystals, they are used in the air recycling unit in the Spectrum Maximum Security Vehicle.
3. ???

2. •Life-support unit has zyolithic crystal converter to eliminate the buildup of carbon dioxide in the cabin - that is the only reference I can find to Zyolitic/zyolithic crystals - and it refers to Thunderbird 4. ( http://www.ticipedia.info/canon-foundry ... bird-four/ ) I am willing to believe the MSV uses the same technology, but I haven't been able to trace a reference to it. It might also be useful for the SPV when it goes underwater and for the Clam subs... (see CS annual 1968, I think)
I already did question 3

I found my reference to Zyolithic crystals on page 46, bullet 17 in the Hayne's Spectrum Agents' Manual.

Well, it does happen in 'Model Spy' where Scarlet introduces Blue and himself to Andre Verdain:
"This is Adam Svenson and I'm Paul Metcalfe'" On that occasion, however, nobody uses the Destiny and Symphony's real names. Perhaps it was assumed that 'models' don't need real names? After all, it was the age of 'Twiggy'...

It’s a pity we don’t get to see them in Switzerland.
2: What type of engines do the Angel Interceptors use?
.....Twin gas-turbine turbo jets followed by ram jets.
3: How come Captain Scarlet’s mind/soul was able to come back after the fall from the Car-view tower? .....Second Chance. By Keith Ansell.
An interesting take on what might have happened to Paul ‘himself’ in the period between his death and his consciousness reclaiming the Mysteronize body.

1: In this episode we see the same shot, of human hand pasting something, used three times. Which one is it?
.....Avalanche
.....Operation Time.
.....The Heart of New York
.....Shadow of Fear
2: Which Spectrum Vehicle would you find a bulldozer blade?
3: This yarn is a retelling of a well-known Christmas poem, set in Cloudbase. What is it called and who did the changes?
As Christmas is coming up fast and furious, time has become tight. So (sadly) I have come to the decision to put a hold on the next lot of questions until after the New Year. I will still answer the questions I have posted up till now. On the Wednesdays (I hope) of course. But I think all of us will appreciate having one less thing to think about. I will post the next set of questions on January the 8th.However I will still be wanting answers to the questions on the go at the moment so don’t go on holiday just yet.

'Pasting' something? That rings no bells.
Not sure on number 3 either.
With luck I'll have time to do the research, but, as you say, time is pressing on
