Room of Sleep.

Kia Ora Guys.

Can anyone tell me if there’s anything in the canon about how long the room of sleep takes to do it’s thing, or has it not been specified?

If that’s the case then is there fanfic standard or is up to us writers? ;-$

I think there's something in the annuals about the Room of Sleep - if you can count that as canon.
I'll look it up when I get a chance.

I haven't been able to find anything in the annuals so far.

Chris Drake's and Graeme Bassett's book about CS says:
Floating 7 miles above sea level, Cloudbase...functions around the clock, with its crew of 600 working constant 4 hour shifts. To combat fatigue, Cloudbase employs the Room of Sleep, where a hypnotic chamber with diffused lighting and 'weightless' gimbal-slung couches which make it possible for Cloudbase operatives to cram 8 hours sleep into 30 minutes.'

There's a story in a1990's comic (at least, that's where I saw it) with Harmony and Scarlet sent to a camp where the Room of Sleep technique is used to hypnotise operatives into assassins. The only TV reference I can recall is Destiny complaining that she's tired and saying 'ah, take me to that Room of Sleep' then Symphony says something about working 4 hours on and 2 hours off... I don't think it is certain that that particular pattern of shifts is the usual one - after all, senior officers are away on a mission...

Thanks for that Marion. I appreciate you looking this up for me. :grin:

Unfortunately I only have the episodes and the cutaways of some of the Spectrum vehicles for reference (oh and fanfic stories). It can be hard when I would like to be accurate. I had a feeling that it was something like that, I think that I might have read your quote somewhere else. Once again thanks and if anyone else has something to add then please do.

In the first John Theydon novel, "Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons", Col White sends Rhapsody for "an hour" in the Sleep Room. Later, Scarlet also goes in there:

"... in three-quarters of an hour, thanks to this ingenious sleep-inducing room, he would awaken as fresh as if he'd had a full night's sleep..."

Thanks for that.

It seems that what I thought, that it was around half an hour to an hour for the room of sleep to work, is about right. I don't think it would be as useful if it took longer.
