Spectrum at the Olympics

I don't know what it is like in the rest of the world but as long as the Olympics are on, TV viewing is absolutely dire in Oz. (Mind you, the programs they are advertising to start after the Olympics don't look so hot either). :cry:

So I've been watching some of the games and I've been thinking....

Considering the fitness levels required by the Captains and Angels:

# Which Olympic sport(s) do you think your favourite (or not) Spectrum member would be good at?

# Which sport would you LIKE to see him/her compete in?

I could definitely imagine (original) Captain Grey competing in at least one swimming swimming event, but that doesn't take MUCH imagination..

Captain Blue could take part in the wind surfing, I'm sure.

Captain Scarlet (original): any and all of the combat sports. Along with anything requiring a weapon of sort. He's supposed to be an expert!

I'm now quite entertained by the idea of them competing as a rowing four/quad, coxed by Harmony

edit: My brother reliably informs me that only the other four women could be coxed by Harmony. The men would have to be coxed by another man...

For original Destiny: the horse dressage. It's an event in which you dress up a horse and make it dance. It's the closest thing to Destiny's favourite hobby that I could think of.

For New Scarlet: gymnastics, especially the rings (how appropriate...), the pommel horse and the parallel bars. After all, if he can do such a spectacular dismount from a satellite dish, just think what he could achieve with proper equipment!

I think Rhapsody would probably do well in the Winter Olympics - the skiiing, to be precise. She could borrow the Jet-ski pack Lady P used in 'Cham-Cham'. And, if that didn't get her a gold, she'd be a shoe-in for the Apres-ski. :wink:

I don't think the jet-ski would be allowed, somehow... Especially seeing as GB wasn't even permitted to wear the garments they prefer in one of the cycling events.

I also don't remember seeing anywhere in Rhapsody's biography that she skis, let alone that she's any good at it... ;-$

I think these are both references to:

a) a short story from the Angels book where she does some sky with a friend who turns out to be a Mysteron agent;
b) a comic strip from one of the annuals Lady Penelope books called... Après-Ski.

If I recall, Captain Black was rather pretty looking in "Après-Ski"...

How about Rhapsody doing some fencing? It's not canon, but she fenced against Captain Scarlet in one of my stories... And winning too!

Speaking of "Fencing", Colonel White from the New series would beat them all!

Sorry for the confusion, I think I am at fault, anyway. I keep telling SL that John Theydon's stories aren't Canon, so I probably made her think it was the case everywhere. It's just that I feel that the John Theydon's books were too out of character and contrived (Rhapsody and Scarlet together because the writer likes Rhapsody) to be counted as Canon. She has read his books, but they probably went out of her head.

New Colonel White really would beat them at Fencing! And seeing as Lieutenant Green was in the WASPs he'd probably be good at swimming, though it doesn't say anywhere if that is the case.

No problem with canon or not - you can use whatever you want as references, either in this forum or in writing stories.

Fanfic, however, might be a little problematic, as it is definitely not canon (although sometimes, and in some cases only, refered as 'fanon'). So when people do use them as reference, it's better to make it clear where the reference comes from - like I did for Fencing Rhapsody.

Green as a swimmer... Why not?! I certainly can see him doing it! But NO WAY he's gonna beat Captain Grey, that's for sure!

Ah, I see. Maybe I take too much notice of the Canon information... I'll remember in future.

Of course he wouldn't beat Grey! I mostly chose Green because the obvious members of Spectrum have already been mentioned before and I couldn't see much information about his (or any of the others that haven't been mentioned before) non-Specrum-related skills.

I suppose, seeing as Canon doesn't matter, Symphony Angel could do show jumping? Just a thought seeing as in some of the fan fictions she lived on a ranch... can't think of what the fan fictions were called or who they were by off-hand, though.

I think Rhaposdy does some water- skiing in the short story about Madame La Roche, which isn't an Olympic sport any more - if it ever was... which is not to say that it won't be in thbe future, of course.
But the 'Apres-ski' reference was indeed for the Lady P annual story, where Rhapsody and Destiny go on a (snow) skiing holiday.

I always thought Grey would be a good swimmer and that Blue would be one too - after all, you need to be able to deal with falling off your surfboard, don't you? :wink:
