Why are all the Angels women?

The gladiators were there to stop contenders from scoring points, in the case of males angels, its just stopping enemy vehicles.

Jet and Lightening angel anyone hehe. The male names seem very predatory to me though.

Yeah, just watch the episodes where Captain Blue and Symphony are together.

Anyway, in Symphony dream, Scarlet WAS a male Angel.

He actually was a male pilot, which is quite a difference. They don't give him the name 'Angel 1' when he's at the helm of the fighter, but 'Scarlet 1'. But okay - this was a dream.

Well, er... that does depend on the sense you give to the word 'angels' - traditionally, in various religions, an angel - which name means 'messenger' - is a messenger from God, but they can have various other tasks, and more often than none, they would be depicted as guardians and - warriors.

And warriors, our Angels are.

In a way, I suppose the Spectrum Angels are messengers, when they shoot at the bad guys, it's a way of saying Spectrum is gonna send you to hell.

If I remember rightly, they're not called 'Angels' everywhere around the world. In the Netherlands they were known as the 'Five Julias'... now, I don't speak Dutch, but a quick check in an online dictionary suggests their word for Angels isn't Julias, so I have no idea WHY they were known as that; however, I can't see any chaps wanting to be called by that codename.
Incidently, it always reminds me of the comic strip in 'Bunty' called the 'Four Marys' :wink:

What I meant was - I can't see guys wanting to be called 'Julia'. :wink:

Most Angels in biblical stories (if not all of them) are masculine - think of their names: Gabriel, Michael, Raphael etc. and they tend to be depicted as muscular chaps smiting bad guys, when they're not running messages, anyway. I can't see chaps minding that.

Have a vague memory that when the script for Dollshouse (NCS) was on youtube, it was said that men couldn't be Angels, because they were too heavy for the aircraft.

This makes a degree of sense, as men tend to be heavier than women, espesically if speed was the primary consideration.

I haven't seen the script on You Tube, but I do know some of what it contained, and I think ( only think, mind you!) that the remark was made by Scarlet's nephew. At eight years old, that probably seemed like a logical explanation!

But it does make a degree of sense in general, and might explain why everyone else is using Vampire flyers (who appear to be poiloted by men, as opposed to the Falcons.

This might allow the falcons to be faster and have greater sofication as the poilots are taking up less space and weight in the cockpit.

But surely, Cat2, that would mean the ideal pilot for every fighter would have to be small and light - rather like horse racing jockeys - and every time one of the Angels had a large meal, or gained a few pounds, they'd be barred from flying until nature - or a strict diet - took its course?
