The kids shows of today are a lot different from the ones of yesteryear. Kids need characters they can really connect to. New Captain Scarlet, to kids, is lovable because he seems real, probably more real than original Captain Scarlet.
And its easier to show emotions and develop a character with CGI then a puppet.

Speaking as a child of yesteryear (I was never a kid, I fear) I can assure you, Intensity Angel, that Captain Scarlet, his friends and colleagues and indeed, all of the dear people from the television programmes created by that nice Mr Anderson, were as real as real could be to me, and to all of my friends and associates.
Before the days of instant video gratification, we had to wait with bated breath for the next exciting installment of their adventures. There were the comics, of course, to keep us going through the week and endless games where we acted out our own 'fan fiction' adventures, in playgrounds and gardens. I distinctly remember having a green bicycle which doubled as Thunderbird 2 on such occasions. I blush to admit it now, of course.
All it takes is imagination, my dear, and I am sure that the 'kids' of today have plenty of that, if it is allowed to flourish.

Oh, you wouldn't say that if you'd been at the recent Fanderson convention, and watched John Blundall operating one of his puppets. It looked almost alive... and it was simply oozing emotion.
His philosophy of puppeteering states that the puppet operator must be an actor, a dancer, a gymnast, because only someone totally in command of their own body can successfully transfer proper movement via a set of strings to make an inanimate object come alive.

When I said what I said about NCS Scarlet is what I learned from my six year old Godson.
He's seen both NCS and OCS now, and I asked him which he preferred.
He said he liked OCS more but preferred NCS Captain Scarlet to OCS Captain Scarlet because he looked more human and he gets killed off a lot better

I think he like OCS more just because I let him play with my old OCS toys and figures and he can kill me off with the water pistol. He also likes Thunderbirds, but not the movie directed by Commander Riker.
Oh yeah and Lady P, I used to have a silver bike and pretend it was Thunderbird One and that I was Scott Tracy on a mission! My best mate was always Virgil in Thunderbird 2! Oh happy days! Nowadays I'm still Scott Tracy and my Godson is either Virgil Tracy or The Hood depending what mood he is!

I am no NCS expert, but I have the distinct impression that NCS Scarlet doesn't get 'killed off' as much as OCS Scarlet.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

He particularly likes it when Scarlet is killed in Shapeshifter while he didn't actually realise OS Scarlet had been killed off in a couple of episodes like Rig 15- I might be wrong with the number. Kids nowadays!

Chris Drake makes the suggestion that Scarlet is 'a walking solar battery...constantly recharging himself from the sun's rays ready for his next duel with death', so perhaps all Scarlet's doing on the African plain is topping up his retrometabolism battery and his 'ah', that worries Intensity so much, is simply satisfaction at realising he's fully charged?

Or it could be the 'keep the war off the dinner table' that my mate and their dad told me. Obviously Scarlet isn't at a dinner table, he's relaxing outside but the context is that he's just chilling out, not worrying about the war at that particular moment.
