The Mysterons Computer or higly evolved beings?
Moderator: Spectrum Strike Force
1. If they were computers then the Mysteronising rings would require a large amount of power and would be transmited on a signal strong enough for at least Sppectrum to detect and try and block?
2. If they were computer why did they not just use the signal they use for the mysterionisng ciircles to take over all off the automated weaopns and atomic power bpalnet safety systems on Earth and just unleash mayhem?
3. Why would computers need those vechiles that existed in the Mysteron moon colony?

The first Captain Scarlet annual (1967) says:
Where the Mysterons came from no one will ever know. We assume that many thousands of years ago, this strange race of people from an unknown galaxy in outer space travelled through the heavens intent on building up a new community. Why they left their own planet is yet another mystery. Perhaps it was because of overpopulation or perhaps the death of their own planet forced these peaceful people to leave, and search the stars for another planet of similar climate and environment.
Travelling in spaceships, they only carried the bare essentials, which consisted of fantastic computers with outstanding powers. Powers to reconstruct objects and beings after they had been destroyed! For these people were so advanced and intelligent that their whole existence was built around computers. A peaceful existence, safe from alien forces and world disasters, based on the knowledge they could bring back to life any of their people or reconstruct their buildings if the need arose.
This mysterious nation must have wandered endlessly through the galaxies, until they landed on the red planet of Mars. Here, we think they set up a thriving community, self-sufficient amidst its huge computer complex with the computer ‘brains’ planning and running their city for them.
But this new life on a strange planet must have held fears for this small community because they developed, as a security measure, new computers to defend their complex. Computers programmed with information instructing them to retaliate ruthlessly if the complex was attacked, and to wage ultimate destruction on their attackers.
Then, for some reason only known to the Mysterons, they suddenly decided to leave Mars. Abandoning completely their huge complex, now presumably too large to take with them, they returned to outer space leaving behind their computers. Computers still programmed with orders to retaliate if attacked and seek revenge…
…
This then is the Mysteron force, formerly a complex of slave computers designed to maintain the life of their masters, but now a hostile force turned against Earth.
I would assume that’s where the original idea of a hostile artificial intelligence came from, but it doesn’t follow that it is the only option. A great many things in the Anderverse contradict themselves when a plot line requires it. For instance, ‘only an electron rifle can kill a Mysteron’ – oh yeah? Well, why do we never see another one after that?
I think it is safe to say that you can make the Mysterons anything you like – within reason.
