Halloween Fan Fiction Challenge - 2009 Edition
Moderators: chrisbishop, Spectrum Strike Force

The Halloween Challenge has now been launched! And as for all the years before (Will you believe this is our EIGHTH edition?!) we hope that you'll be numerous to participate and to submit your stories!
Will we find new talented writers this year, as we did in years before? Will you be inspired to write your own story for the Challenge?
Same rules as all the previous years, of course. And this year, we're having a little addtional Challenge. One you are not obligated to take, in order to participate to the main event of the year (Halloween is the biggest Fanfic Challenge for this website!), but you might find it interesting.
Read it all on the page:

And contact me if you wish to participate!

I hope there are plenty of stories waiting to be posted? I managed to complete a fairly short one from an idea I'd had for years, and that's all done and dusted now. Only (for me) the surprise of just how Chris will choose to present it.
I am always amazed at how she manages to enhance the spookiness by the clever ways she finds.

Yours sounds so good, Marion. I'm off to go read that now.

This year, Marion Woods starts the Challenge, with her submission with "Cordyceps", a truly horrifying story:
When Captain Scarlet accompanies Doctor Fawn on a medical mission, neither man has any concept of the danger they will have to face.
Read the story at the following link:

And be sure to check the list of our upcoming stories and our rules, if ever you want to participate, on this page:

I totally agree, girls. Marion has crafted a fine story, with a super mix of great dialogue (as ever) a nice tight plot (which I wont give away..LOL) and excellent descriptive narrative, some of it VERY descriptive...you have been warned.
The only question is...will you ever eat one of these again?

First: "A Day in the Death of Richard Fraser", by Sage Harper, where Captain Ochre reflects on events in his life.
Then "Missed Opportunities", by Talia Gray, where an unlikely creature reflects on a unique possibility...
And "Pawns of Evil", by D. Lynn Bivens and Kimberly Murphy, this year's re-posting, where Captain Scarlet and his colleagues reflect on many things - particularly on how to save New York from Mysteron pawns!
Over to you and hope you'll have great fun!

Sage: I loved the character-driven moments and the excellent dialogue!
Talia: What a clever idea - and what a lucky escape for mankind!

Haven't got round to the re-posting yet, but I will.

I suspect the chefs on Cloudbase took them off the menu for a while

Sage, nice inner dialogue, and good style for that story. Some great one-liners...enjoyed it.
Talia, a smashing story, short but punchy, much like your first effort last year, well done!

Funeral for a Friend, by Tiger Jackson.
This short story has been sleeping on my hard drive for years, and I had forgotten about it. So now, it is finally posted, but an author who has provided the Halloween Challenge with some of the quirkiest stories we had.
Hoping you are reading these lines, Tiger!
