Why was Captain Black at the Nuclear Center in Manhunt?

he breaks in and is sneaking around, Crnl White says they don't know why he is there, but is a reason ever given, or does anyone have any theories?

As far as I recall, there was no explanation given in the episode, but our own Colonel Chris wrote The Quest, a story based around this very question.

Could it be that the Mysterons made an honest mistake and were supposed to send Black somewhere else while Spectrum was distracted but they gave Black incorrect orders.

My theory could possibly be, that the Mysterons were planning to either release radiation into the ecosphere....

Or perhaps, trigger a chain reaction to cause the Atomic Center to explode (Much like the way, The Hood sabotaged the atomic irrigation stations in Thunderbird's 'The Mighty Atom')

Didn't The Hood visit the stations to photograph the nuclear sea plant? Then he accidentally shot the thing... :wink:

Yeah and then the second time round , he blew another one up. The quote,

"You were only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!"

comes to mind.

Anywa, I was thinking, what if the Mysteron did it to try and draw out Black's humanity, to see if any remained after they took him over. That scene when he says to Symphony that the Mysterons also have compassion seems to suggest that he still has some humanity.

I forget where - I put it down to my advanced age, you know - but I read somewhere the idea that the background radiation might be weakening the Mysterons' hold on Black and it is his 'human self' that tells Symph, the Mysterons too, have compassion.
That, of course, only works if he wasn't killed on Mars, but ... assimilated, so that there is a 'human self' left to chat to Symph.

Like with Captain Picard when he is assimilated by the Borg and upon being rescued, Data commuincates with his humanity while the borg looses control.

Maybe it was a case that Black had forced his humanity through and had broken the Mysterons control long enough to go to the station. Prehaps he had access to the Mysteron conscience and learned that radiation affected the Mysterons and so tried to use that to his advantage but the Mysterons used his bad behavior to a sort of advantage.

I thought leeting Symphony out under the guise of compassion was just a ruse, that he really only wanted to radiate her a little so he could use her as a decoy.

Maybe the Mysterons had control of him at that point and Black was a helpless puppet.
