Pets?

He's stuck in a swamp-thing, falls from buildings and moving vehicles, is almost skewered and blown up - all with expressions that verge of either boredom or peevishness

(Okay - he's a little worried by the sharks too...)

Anyway, I think a few idiosyncratic traits (like disliking snakes and being a very poor sailor) are not inconsistant with his being brave, noble, handsome etc etc - and do make the guy seem rather less of a cypher and more human-like...
Could be wrong, of course...
P.S. Which other fearless hero?

Totally agree, those quirks make them human. Which is very important for Scarlet.

Squishy
Also am going to have to do something with the whole mascot concept. Think a chamellion would be awesome.

All or any of the agents could have any kind of pet they wanted at home.
In my stories, the Svenson family have cats and dogs, and quite probably horses too - kept somewhere else, though, I suspect! The Metcalfes, living in the country, have dogs. I don't think I've decided on the others, although I have read of Rhapsody's family having horses...

His little sister must have a pony though. Rhapsody probably did too. Symphony grew up on a ranch, according to fanon, so she must have been around horses a fair bit too.
I don't image Magenta's family would have pets, not while he was growing up anyway, it would have been an extra needless expense when they weren't well off. Do like the idea of his parents moving to Ireland and having a farm (as described in Dead Ringer) though.
Grey probably had goldfish, turtles and aquatic creatures like that. Maybe he even has a tank of tropical fish in his quarters.
Winchester isn't exactly the back of beyond, but we do have the new forest and beaches near by, so it's good to think the Metcalfes would have a dog.
Haven't really thought about the others, so no ideas for them.

I can't quite imagine Mr & Mrs Svensons with pets, they might be a bit too house proud;
That's what you have a large house and servants for...

I see Mrs Svenson with a very spoilt, fluffy cat - perhaps a Persian, and the family having 2 dogs. (I think they crop up in a so far unposted fic.)

The Metcalfes in my stories have a house in the countryside outside Winchester, so dogs are no problem for them.
I think both Rhapsody and Symphony would ride, and probably Scarlet and Blue as well.
I like the ides of Koi Carp on the Promenade Deck. The private bank I once worked for had a fishpond on the top floor of their building, outside the Chairman's office.

Oh yeah and I just remembered mention of Blue & late fiancee having a cat, in 'the face of a pretty girl'. Never would have imagined him as a cat person but it's quite sweet.
Pretty sure Scarlet wouldn't be though, which has some comic potential. He may well meet his match with Mrs Svenson's cat.
Can't imagine what sort of dogs they would have. I did mention Blue's brother & sister have a mutt from an animal shelter. But I doubt very much Mr Svenson would personally be seen with anything less than a purebred.

This is the snippet I wrote about the topic of Captain Blue and Pets: Symphony is at the house of an old friend of Captain Blue's, and she's been talking to the cat about Blue while her hostess was out of the room. The lady comes back in and interrupts her....
She smiled with amusement as Symphony sprang to her feet in surprise and embarrassment. “It always amused me how cats all seem to adore him,” she added, watching the young woman carefully.
Aware that this was all part of Wyn’s test of her bona fides, Symphony replied, “Yes, it’s funny, especially as he really doesn’t like them much. He told me, when he was a kid, his mom always had big, fluffy Persian cats - invariably bad-tempered, at least, according to Adam - which she spoiled dreadfully. In fact, she still does, at least if what he’s told me about Ahasueras – her latest one - is anything to go by.”
“Mrs Svenson always chose such… unusual names for her cats.”
“Yeah; Adam said she was working her way through the Old Testament, looking for exotic names. He can’t wait for her to get to the Book of Malachi, and stop.”
Wyn smiled, the wariness vanishing from her eyes as she heard the familiar witticism. “Yes, he used to say as much. He has not changed his opinion, it seems.”
Symphony smiled in response. “Cats are probably too sedentary to have even registered on his consciousness as a kid, and small boys are not known for their ability to appreciate pretty, fluffy things. I guess the dogs were always up for a run in the park or a swim in the sea, and I have the impression Adam never sat still for long as a boy, so the dogs would be far more to his liking.”
“Indeed; he has learned the art of stillness now. He was never still when I first met him – always fizzing with energy.”
Just a bit of daft really...

Cats often do gravitate toward people who don't show them much interest. So that figures I guess.
I'm totally not a cat person, so probably couldn't write it with much conviction. Dogs are much better imo.

Parker Gabriel wrote:The most I have to say about it is that Mary Rudy gave the Paul Metcalfe whom Captain Scarlet used to be a Golden Retriever, whom she had respond to the name of Humphrey
I believe that if you read that story again, you will find Humphrey to be a yellow Labrador, not a long-haired Golden Retriever. I simply would not be able to keep that long hair out of every scrap of fabric in this house!
