VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA

American television show. 1964-1948.

Another Irwin Allen's TV series, 'Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea' was based on the movie of the same title, which was also created by Allen. In the series, Admiral Nelson was played by Richard Basehart and is a typical mad scientist who designed the Seaview submarine, and Lee Crane is the Captain in command of the sub. The actors were best friends and it comes across on screen, with a sort of father/son relationship although there is only 14 years between their ages.

THE PORTAL

LAND OF THE GIANTS

American television show. 1968-1970.

Irwin Allen‘s best series are still very watchable today, despite the sometimes rubbish plots. They are charming and timeless because he created characters who care about each other so much throughout their hair-raising adventures, that we can‘t help but care about them too. In 'Land of the Giants' it even rubbed off into real life. The actors who played Mark and Valerie got married, and although the actor who played 'Fitz' died, all the others still love to get together for conventions after more than forty years.
