Destiny

Another (slightly pointless) question: What do you think of Destiny Angel? I know quite a few people have expressed a strong dislike of her, but I do know one person who thinks shes fantastic ( :shock:

). I'm starting a poll because I thought it would be amusing to see the gap between 'love her' and 'hate her' at the end.

'Hate' is probably too strong a word, but I certainly don't love her, in fact I don't even like her... :roll:

Yeah, hate and love are probably too strong, but lets just say hate covers dislike, and love covers like...

Poor Destiny.

Just because she is a romantic, fickle and has crashed a whole squadron of Falcon Interceptors doesn't mean she should be treated like this. She is a bit clingy and whining but aren't those so endearing? :angel)

I have to say, I can't help wondering if the 'feedback' about Destiny was so bad that they made more out of the Lady Ochre character in the later stories?
Mind you, I can't remember most of the episodes in any great detail, but I don't recall Destiny being quite so omnipresent later on... but maybe that is wishful thinking?

No, Destiny wasn't really in later episodes that much...I won't say much, but, to put it briefly, I was VERY pleased to see that!!
Ochre was present a lot later on. Again, VERY pleased! I think perhaps that would have been it...the 'half-dropping Destiny to replace by Ochre' thing...

I can't imagine the scripts were changed because of feedback on Destiny. Maybe the higher ups made the decision. Where would the feedback come from? If the series was more popular or lasted longer I could see this.

It does seem that some of the later episodes did more to incorporate better executed elements like Ochre, the different factions and such so someone was paying attention. Still I don't think the majority of the complaints about the series was about Destiny. I would say scheduling, promotion, stupid MOM, when is it on, thanks for telling me that it started 3 weeks ago and so forth.

I'm afraid I took a dislike to her from episode one..and I can't really put my finger on why..either..
She's tough, she's a leader, she kicks ass...all the things I like in my female Sci-fi characters.
But I just dont sympathise with her, I don't want to root for her like I did for the original CS Angels, or like I do for Lt-Col Sam Carter from Stargate.
In fact, now that I think about it..she sort of reminds me of the female Starbuck in New Battlestar Galactica...you want to like her..but she does her best to be a right royal pain in the ass to herself, and everyone around her...

Yes, I love Ochre, too. I love Green, despite the abnormal size of her eyes. I like most of the Angels, although I think Harmony is plain weird ( despite that seemingly suspect Southern belle accent, which was a dead ringer for a shop assistant I once encountered in South Carolina).

I don't think the lack of Destiny in some of the later episodes is as a result of feedback. Let's face it, feedback from any quarter didn't seem to feature in the way NCS went ! Maybe they hoped that if further episodes were made, all the characters would have their day, so to speak. It just never happened.

To my mind, D is no better or worse than many of the script victims, but I suppose it seemed worse because she was supposed to be the love interest and as such, had a higher profile. I could be really sexist here, and say that she was about as wet as some male scriptwriter wanted her to be !

I quite agree - so many of the characters suffered from bad scripts.
However, Destiny was the one character from the original series who got 'promoted', at the expense of everyone - even Scarlet in some cases at the start of NCS- and she didn't merit the attention.
She failed to impress on many levels and if she was meant to be a role model for a 'modern woman' - Gawd help us. The original Angels had more backbone and they didn't even get their mascara smudged... :wink:

The original Angels had more backbone and they didn't even get their mascara smudged.

Ok, and they had Big Nashville hair too. However, if you look at Syrtis Major, in the scene where Black and Destiny came together in what looked like a sort of refectory type room her eyelashes and eyebrows were as blonde as her hair. Face didn't look like it had a picking of make-up. Now there's a brave woman !
