Get this: the ranking was a 86 when I checked!

To put things into perspective: Think about HOW MANY AVAILABLE titles Amazon must sell!
I was a little curious about how the ranking was working, so I browsed around the site and discovered the following article.
The Sales Rank for an item is displayed on its product information page, a few lines below the image.
The calculation is based entirely on Amazon.co.uk sales and is updated regularly. For example, in the Books shop, the top 10,000 is updated hourly to reflect sales over the preceding 24 hours. The next 100,000 is updated once a day. The rest of the list is updated monthly, based on several different factors.
Our system continually adjusts the Sales Rank of millions of items against each other, so the Sales Rank for an item may change even if its sales remain stable. A change might occur if, for example, an item near it on the list experiences a sudden increase or decrease in sales. Our Sales Rank figures are intended to be of general interest. They are not meant to provide definitive sales information to publishers and manufacturers who, it is assumed, can obtain this information regularly from their distribution sources.
I checked the top 100 sellers in the DVD section of Amazon. This title was in excellent company... I don't know if it'll still be there when you'll check, though...
Number one top seller at the moment? Why, of course... 'Star Wars: Episode III'! But then, it's not really a surprise!

Will try ASDA on Tuesday, just in case.
Getting frustrated with this lack of support for the show.
They did mean the 17th October this year?

Has anyone else seen any pre-launch promotion of the DVD either on TV or in store posters etc? I hoped there would have been some posters in the windows in Woolworth's or Blockbusters up to now, but I haven't seen anything of the sort. Are Granada Ventures trying to hide the DVD in the same way they have hidden the TV series? The only alternative to this that I can think of is that they may be planning a big pre-Christmas push.

Pre-launch promotion, Posters, Christmas push! As great as it sounds and I would expect this from a great franchise. Unfortunatly I think we are deluding ourselves here, I really think what we see is what we are going to get, Not a lot!
I reckon they must be a bunch of numbskulls to miss a great opertunity to gain lots of new fans by their lack of promotion on this and would love to know what everyone from the series makers must be thinking right now.
Trying again tommorow.

I did ask in the HMV store in Staines but I shied away at the (full) price of £29.99 when Amazon have it for £22.49 and HMV Online for £17.99! The HMV shop had 2 copies, one was reserved already and the other was available.

The lack of promotion is unfortunate. Even a little bit more word on the streets and it could have increased sales by quite a bit. Hopefully the reviews of the set will boost sales over the next few months.
