And they say cartoons never teach you anything...

For example the other week in Religious Education my teacher asked what is it called when civilian targets are hit. And I automatically thought back to Trap for a Rhino and the word collateral damage.
Has anyone else been able to use quotes or information like this, or is it just me?

Who sang the theme song Fireball? (Don Spencer)
Bonus points: Name his famous actor son in law. (Russell Crowe)
I guess the second part will soon have to be changed to: Name his famous actor former son in law.

But seriously, I didn't know that the voice belonged to Don Spencer, or that he was Danielle Spencer's father. Another bit of fascinating fan trivia!

For a long time I had no idea Don Spencer was Australian. After all, I only knew that one recording and he was living in Britain.
Then one day he came back to Australia and appeared on an Oz TV series called Bandstand, hosted by Brian Henderson. Brian introduced him and mentioned that he had hosted Play School in the UK, and had a successful hit record that 'was the theme to a popular children's TV series' (He didn't name it though!)
By now I was on my feet shouting, 'It's him! It's him!' to my bemused parents. 'Who?' asked my mother. 'Don Spencer who sings Fireball, my favourite song ever....and he's AUSTRALIAN!!' I barely managed to gasp out. (Feel free to have a giggle here).

After that, while the family generally watched every variety/music show on TV anyway (there were only two TV channels in those days!) I paid a lot more attention to the guest stars..and he did appear on some of those shows. I still remember Don Spencer singing the pop version of an old classic 'Exactly Like You' on the Bobby Limb Show, and even now I wish there was some way to get a recording or tape of it, but it was so long ago I expect the film has been lost.
Then there was the time Bandstand held a songwriting competition and Don entered the comp with a song he'd written. He didn't win (and that's a whole other story never explained how the person who did win managed it). He included the song on the flipside of a single he recorded some years later....but the version he sang on Bandstand was a much better arrangement IMO - I've still got it on an old cassette tape, now sadly degrading with time.
Ah well, I've gone off topic and bored everyone long enough. I guess...
