I now watch it with my wife who is not a science fiction fan but loves the show. She puts it down to Ed Bishop's charisma and acting ability.
Ed should have gone onto bigger and better but his portrayal as Ed Straker has created a fantastic TV character.
Mike and Ed - Thanks for the memories.

I only wish I'd had the opportunity to meet them both (but especially Ed) to say how much I loved Captain Scarlet and UFO.

Very sad news - and strange was just thinking about Ed celebrating his 73rd birthday (which, unfortunately he didn't).
Unfortunately, I never managed to meet, "MICHAEL BILLINGTON" in person.
However, I did have the pleasure of meeting "ED BISHOP" (just once on a theatre trip a few years back in "SHEFFIELD". He was the only American actor in the Arthur Miller play, "BROKEN GLASS" at the Lyceum theatre. )
That was an interesting encounter as, he invited me to eat with him in the Crucible theatre cafe (he was having his lunch between shows) and, guess he felt like comapny. We ended up chatting for nearly two hours on everything from "U.F.O." to everyday subjects. He was one of the nicestest folks you could ever wish to meet, charming, courteous and an excellent actor on stage as, well as for the role most will know him for "Cmdr. ED STRAKER". I for one will miss him.
R.I.P.

ED BISHOP - 11th JUNE 1932 - 8th JUNE 2005

We wrote to him asking about his recollections, and even though he did not recall much of what amounted to less than a day's work nearly forty years ago, he was kind enough to write back and say so. This, to us, spoke volumes of a very genuine person, as well as a very professional one.
Certainly a very sad loss.
