Captain Scarlet episode reviews...

Yes, the extensive stills gallery on the Umbrella Secret Service set is indeed impressive.

I am a very big fan of Umbrella and many people over here think that their boxsets of the various ITC cult series from the 1960's are the finest sets ever made. The sets all seem to be region 0 which means that they play fine on a region 2 dvd player.

I have the boxsets for Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased), Department S and Man In A Suitcase and I have to say that the extras provided on these sets are quite extraordinarily good.

I have Umbrella's Department S set - I've read it's considered the best. (And there won't be any argument from me about that)! I gave up waiting for UFO though and bought the US megaset. IF the R4 UFO set every comes out I will probably get that too but I won't be in a hurry about it.

As for NCS - who knows....

Been reading the first two Thunderbirds reviews over and over when I discovered them a while back, and was delighted (Oh, how feminine...) when The Secretive Bus started writing them again. They are excellent!! :grin:

I especially loved "The Perils of Penelope"!!! I just love that shot with Virgil on the tunnel floor.....right then and there, I fell madly in love with him!! 0---0

Anything with Thunderbird 2 doing a rescue in mid-air or like the one in Edge of the Road with Barry Gray's music is number one in my book.

Should be interesting indeed. I found his comments on Captain Scarlet very interesting! (classic_s)

I like this type of review that gets you to look out for details you may have not noticed before.

I'm working my way through the DVDs, and find myself watching the episodes anticipating a point that will appear in Secretive Bus's reviews when I look at them after I've seen the episode. I was watching Spectrum Strikes Back last night, and a couple of times there were a few lines that I thought were dodgy, wondering if the Bus caught them. For instance, Colonel White "Shall we go down?" struck me as being a bit of a double-entendre and I was pleased to see that the Bus thought so too.

Something I've noticed that the Bus never mentioned:

Whenever he contacts a Mysteron, Captain Black says:

"This is Captain Black relaying instructions from the Mysterons. You know what you must do."

That's relaying instructions :?:

He never tells them something specific, like "Plant a bomb to go off at such-and-such a time", just "You know..." Well, actually, there is one episode when he does elaborate a little, but I can't recall offhand what it is.

(By the way, at the moment I've got four episodes of the series left to see, so there may be two more chances for him to go into detail, but I'm not holding my breath.)

Sometimes it seems as if he's been shoehorned into a storyline and "You know..." is a convenient bit of "script shorthand". That or lazy scriptwriting?

And why bother relaying "instructions" via Captain Black at all? Just relay them directly to the replicant in question. We know from "Treble Cross" that they can do so telepathically. I agree that such things probably were just an excuse to have Black appear in some form, since in many episodes he wasn't vital to the plot. Still, at least it gave him some dialogue, which is more than you can say for "Winged Assassin" or "Big Ben Strikes Again", in both of which he had seemingly no influence on the plot whatsoever and just stood there looking menacing.

I love the reviews, but the Thunderbirds ones haven't been updated in ages. :cry:

I was viewing "Operation Time" the other day, and even Captain Black had instructed the Mysteronized Magnus to "Kill Time"

A very good episode!! (The first two-thirds of the episode had Spectrum really thrown for a loop trying to figure out how the Mysterons were planning to do it......until Captain Magenta stumbles across it!! "Kill time......kill Tiempo!!".....which is indeed time, in Spanish!!)

i love the reveiws, even if i don't agree with all his ratings. i really did not think that attack on cloudbase was a good episdoe at all and he loves it, but oh well.

i got a great laugh out of all the comments with the stills at the end of each review.

however, i'm not sure i can forgive him for saying Captain Scarlet has no personality in his 'intro to the World of Captain Scarlet.'
