The Colonel had written: "I believe that this reference to white breeches could be related to the fact that Spectrum security guards are wearing uniforms with white breeches. As they are wearing them while on duty, I don't think they could qualify as 'dress uniforms.' Security guards are not color-coded officers, and IMO, the uniform, in that case, is probably homogeneous for all of them, and assuredly different from their superior officers. Additionally, white breeches, when you’re already wearing two colors for your uniform, might become a little too much, no? But this is just my personal point of view in the matter."

The reference to white breeches is indeed related to the wearing of white breeches by Spectrum security guards, but it also incorporates the reference to the same in Kimberly Murphy's and Richard Spake's story, "Whose Heart Is Blackest?" Remember, in that story, Captain Scarlet, Captain Blue, Captain Ochre, and Colonel White are all in their dress uniforms when they attend the party where Major Rainier Blackheart attacks Captain Scarlet, thinking Herr Hauptman Scharlachrot is still a Mysteron and making Captain Scarlet thinking Major Blackheart is ALSO still a Mysteron. ("Hauptman Scharlachrot," incidentally, is the literal German translation of "Captain Scarlet.")

I do remember the story and made a search in it. I only came up with these references:

He looked at his friend, resplendent in his charcoal-grey dress Spectrum uniform with its discreet piping along the trouser seams and jacket cuffs in the color of the officer's code name."

and

He watched as the young sentry at the main gate was relieved of his duties by two armed Spectrum sergeants. Their charcoal-grey uniforms with white sashes and white-and-grey RadioCaps were dead giveaways.

I can see no mention of white trousers on anyone (not even the security guards). But in any case, if there had been, it would have been the vision of the authors, and they would be entitled to their own, just as anyone else.

A fan fiction story, presenting original material, does not make that material official.

Does Mary Rudy's "Mixed Doubles" clear up the question any?

Mind you, I'm not saying that the idea SHOULD be official. As I said in my response to Mary's posting, the question of including or not including white breeches is just a quibble. FAIK, I could be dead wrong.

Are you referring to this line?

Captain Scarlet donned his gray-and-white dress uniform cap. Like the rest of the uniform, it was discreetly trimmed with piping in the same color as his code name.

I could not spot a reference in either story that refers to the trousers as being white.

If you want MY perception of Captain Scarlet in full-dress uniform, even though FAIK, I could be wrong, then I'll work on it over the next two months. My hopes are to post the resulting pictures by March, with all the details.

Nice kitbashing, Mary. I'm a GI Joe collector, and I have recently bought a couple of Vivid Imagination Action Figures for their uniforms to kitbash onto GI Joes.

Back in the 1960's, Pedigree Toys produced a Captain Scarlet Action Figure and it is very desirable. Here are a few pictures from the Action Man Head Quarters, featuring Captain Scarlet...

thanks so much for posting the picts, and for the link to this thread in reply to my inquiring about doll clothes.

i'll just keep a lookout for stuff that looks like it might fit.

They are fantastic. I really like the dress uniform. It's good to have a visual of the unfirom whilst reading the fan fiction that involves it. It just makes me wonder what the Angels dress uniform would look like.
