Why Adam Svenson is Captain Blue, not SvenCorp's CEO

It is known that the career choice Adam Svenson made, that of test-flying aircraft rather than "money-changing," which led him eventually to become Captain Blue of the Spectrum Organization, was a major letdown for his father.

But why did he even make that choice in the FIRST place?

What happened, or did not happen, in his past that led him to abandon the idea of becoming SvenCorp CEO, and the successor to his father in that line of work, in favor of his obtaining a piloting license and an interest in test-flying aircraft?

What could have led to "The Road Not Taken?"

THAT is the question for which this topic seeks the answer.

An interesting question! There's nothing much in canon about it, but I'd like to refer you to http://www.spectrum-headquarters.com/fanfic/woods/seasonal_adjustments.htm by Marion Woods. "Seasonal Adjustments" follows Adam Svenson from childhood, and gives a fanon answer to your question.

Why not make the question the subject of a fan-fiction challenge?

There doesn't have to be a challenge for someone to write a story about a character or a specific situation. The more suggestions and answers to the puzzles the series sets us - the better!

It ultimately led to one of our calendars!
But for Svenson ultimately to become World President, and Paul Metcalfe to be an actor, could be viewed as a bit much.

The 2023 calendar was actually called 'The Road Not Taken' - it was a flight of fancy and was never intended to be taken seriously as it was merely a hook to hang new images of the characters on, one that allowed different settings and costumes to be used. After almost 20 years of producing the calendars thinking of new presentations for them takes some doing!

If he had not been a test-pilot and Spectrum officer, Adam Svenson could have been anything he wanted to be - he had the financial resources through his family, or so it is implied in the 'canon' details for the character (although even the Anderson versions do not always agree or even make much sense) to do as much or as little as he wanted. it is not unknown for wealthy people to get involved in politics, after all, especially, but not exclusively, in the United States.
This website's bio of Adam Svenson says:

The eldest son of a wealthy family from Boston, his father was a successful financier. The family fortune ensured he had a first-rate education and Adam was very successful at school; winning a full scholarship to the renown Harvard University, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, at the early age of 16. Here he gained first-class honours degrees in economics, technology, applied mathematics, aerodynamics and computer control. It seemed as if Adam was destined for a successful career in the family business, but he disappointed his father by choosing a very different career that appealed more to his yearning for an exciting, action-packed lifestyle.

which gives him a wide scope of careers/interests to chose from.
The website also says:

Blue loves outdoors activities, taking every opportunity to travel down to the east-coast of Australia, where he enjoys water-skiing, surfing and deep-sea fishing.

With regard to his surfing activities, one of theTV21 annuals claims 'in 2064 he (Svenson) achieved the longest 'ride' at Waikiki Beach, Oahu - travelling an estimated distance of 5,000 feet' and is 'the current World Record holder'. From that, you could argue he went into professional surfing as a career... if you wanted to.
The options are as broad as your imagination and you do not have to slavishly follow the meagre and (sometimes conflicting) details provided by the Anderverse. :-;)
