There is indeed. I drive past it on my way to my grandparents'. Well remembered, Marion!
Think of what would happen if someone asked a question, and someone else just answered it. It would be BORING! The 'floodgates' are what make this place so interesting.

Don't forget your own Birmingham is called the "Venice of the North" because of its canals.
There are a dozen more towns in the US named Moscow besides the one in Washington State. There's lots of Parises, Venices and towns named after other European cities as well.
Heck, there's even a MARS in Pennsylvania!!!

ROFL.
That must be in the same vein as 'Bal-ham: Gateway to the South'

Where I grew up it was known as 'Brum' or 'Brummigen' and just about the nastiest thing you could say to anyone was 'where do you come from, Burmingum?'
Mind you, being from a two-bit County Town, we looked down on 'mere' citiies.

You said it!
Who knew a James Bond quote could come in handy!?
My faux pas with names led me to altering a line in a story I'm writing concerning a daughter of a German whose surname is Meckler and is half English.
Here in Aylesbury, Crowther is seen a regular-ish name but is mainly from up north in Yorkshire. Crowther's in Huddersfield, York and Sheffield. Though apparently came to England fleeing the French Revolution.
"No studying", said by a smug Bill Murray in Ghostbusters.

Scarlet kept his name, but acquired an American father, Blue kept his name and nationality, but got a military background. Poor Lt Green - and Cpt Ochre - got a sex change! Destiny - from being French - got a new 'French-sounding' name but an American background.
It just seemed to narrow the scope of the characters, rather than expand it. Presumably it was done with one eye on an American sale? Yet one of the nice things about Captain Scarlet in the first place, was that there was a nice mix of nationalities, which was pretty rare for the 60s - as far as I can recall. (The honourable exception being Illya in 'The Man From UNCLE', of course

There just didn't seem any rhyme or reason to it, and I don't think there was ever any explanation offered as to why it was done - although there was some speculation on the forum at the time.

Destiny is supposed to have French parents who live and work in California, and that is where she was brought up. Having said that, her nationality is given as British/American and I would say her accent is more English than American. Certainly no hint of French !
Perhaps the creators ( while wishing to keep the sponsors happy), also thought that by the second half of the 21st century, nationalities would be even more of a melting pot than they are today. I suspect that I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt and it's really down to the fact that they didn't put enough thought into it !

And why not give the other Angels any background details? It's odd. They're named as senior officers but then again how many times do we see Symphony, Rhapsody, Harmony and Melody? It was all driven towards Destiny and if you ask me, I'm suprised Rhapsody hadn't resigned from Spectrum at the end of the series!! She does very little at all.

I'm sure that in time, all the main characters would have been more fleshed out. Sadly, it didn't happen and doesn't seem likely to happen, now.
