Spectrum Shades in TV21

ADDED TO ARCHIVES – SPECTRUM SHADES PASS

With Captain Scarlet and The Mysterons joining the TV21 comic, readers could become ‘Spectrum Shades’ and for a small cost you could order a Spectrum Shades membership card and full colour Spectrum logo tin badge. The card measured 92 mm x 77 mm.

Unfortunately I lost my Spectrum badge years ago but I still have my Shades pass. It has suffered over the years with blue biro filled in details, various creases and marks and a covering of clear adhesive contact which is probably what has changed it from a glossy white to aged cream. After I scanned in the card, I removed the handwriting and repaired the worst of the marks. I’ve left it a cream colour for authenticity. The reverse shows a map of the UK and the various coloured divisions originally printed in greyscale.

For those overseas members (such as myself!) who might have felt somewhat left out at not being allocated a colour captain, from memory I think TV21 later published a world map showing more colour divisions. Perhaps if anyone still has the relevant TV21, that map could be added to the archives, ditto the Spectrum Shades tin badge if anyone is fortunate enough to still have theirs.

I hope Captain Scarlet fans who have never seen this curio find the card interesting.

I've got a copy of that map - it appeared in TV21 issue 147, dateline 11th November 2067 on the back page. I don't actually know how to post pictures to the archives (as I appear to have forgotten my password :roll:

), so I've emailed a copy to the moderators.

I can remember even now that I wasn't staggeringly happy to discover I'd be under the command of Captain Pink (>bleurk(

, so I never joined!

The UK Shades map is quite interesting (in colour) but I was sure there was also something for Spectrum Shades in the rest of the world - either a map or a list of countries and the Spectrum officers assigned to them.
I'm curious to know if that was the case as I have a (very) vague idea someone was assigned to Australia and it would be nice to know if my memory is correct ... or was it just wishful thinking on my part.
