Coming September 2016 to Spectrum HQ, Captain Scarlet 1967: The Five Indestructible Teleplays by Andrew Hsieh!

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Gerry and Sylvia Anderson’s puppet series, there will be 5 full script adaptations of the Century 21 mini albums by Angus P. Allan and Richard O'Neill. These will be released on the week of Captain Scarlet Day (29 September 1967) from:

Monday (25th) - “Introducing Captain Scarlet”
Tuesday (26th) - “Goliath” (aka "Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons")
Wednesday (27th) - “Concert Complexity” (aka "Captain Scarlet is Indestructible")
Thursday (28th) - “Probe Omega” (aka "Captain Scarlet of Spectrum")
Friday (29th) - “Spectrum is Maroon” (aka "Captain Scarlet versus Captain Black")

It was extremely disappointing - for most fans - when the Thunderbirds 1965 team had announced that they were not going to produce the CS67 mini albums into full episodes. Rather than leaving them to gather dust for another 50 years, the scripts will give fans the opportunity to read and visualise what would have appeared on our TV screens, just like the 3 brand new TB65 episodes.

Spectrum Is Red! We have received a very important update from Andrew Hsieh!

Message reads:

Members of Spectrum, I have recently been in contact with our leader Chris Bishop on my script adaptation project, and he has suggested that it would be better to release the final draft scripts during the week of the 50th anniversary, whilst I do an Early Access on the Facebook group Spectrum's Agents and Angels: The Captain Scarlet Fan Group either this coming September or early next year (using the first draft scripts). This wouldn't only allow me more time to carefully draft each episode, but also these teleplays are to commemorate the golden birthday of one of the greatest Supermarionation shows of all time!

Hi Andrew!

I applaud your decision to wait, as suggested, for the anniversary year of 2017, instead of this year. That will indeed give you all the time you need to prepare the scripts as you wish them to appear. 8M-M)

Just a few specifications about our email exchange regarding your project.

When ready, I propose that the five teleplays should, if all goes well, be posted separately. One each week, until the anniversary date. It is impossible to make an update each day for a week on the website. It would require too much work, and anyway, we wouldn't have the time to do that. Once a week is all that could be afforded. Once a month could be another option if you also prefer.

Second detail. Ah... if you're thinking of me as a leader, think of me as a 'Captain Janeway' sort... I'm a woman. This is a common misconception from newcomers, because of my name. Don't feel too bad about it. I realise that through email exchanges, you couldn't tell :grin:

Now it's all sorted!

Oh, and at the same time, I want to offer my congratulations to your two pals who worked on the 'poster' you submitted on this forum. Nice artwork, Andrew-Mark and Lee! 8M-M)

Thanks, Chris! I suggest we could release each script, starting with the anniversary day. Here are the proposed dates:

1. "Introducing Captain Scarlet" - 29th September
2. "Goliath" - 6th October
3. "Concert Complexity" - 13th October
4. "Probe Omega" - 20th October
5. "Spectrum is Maroon" - 27th October

I would rather propose starting on the 1rst of September, and culminating on the 29. The order of posting is of your choice.

That way, not only will you have all of your scripts posted on the anniversary date, but that will leave October clear for the Halloween Challenge.

Before I forget, would you mind if I add dates (e.g. 29/09/2017) to the title pages of my draft and final scripts? I might also add copyright acknowledgements too.

We're still on a planning stage. In case things don't go exactly according to plan, I would suggest for you to wait until when it'll be the actual time of posting to add the dates. Anything can happen in the upcoming year, and none of us knows the future.

However, adding the copyright is definitely a must. You will need to do that to each of the text.

To clarify my point, I plan to add the dates once I finish drafting each script (including the final releases), before saving them and emailing to you as PDFs. Plus, we could also release the full book(let) after the Halloween Challenge, when things are not as hectic.

I presume from the posts above, that all of this is happening next year? If so, what's the hurry about presentation?
From what I remember of the audio adventures the scripts are not exactly riveting, so I hope the proposal is for a full novelisation, or the dialogue with copious 'screen directions' and explanations. Anything else would hardly make exciting reading, IMHO, so take your time and concentrate on producing the five stories - never an easy task however much time you have in hand.

P.S. I meant to say that you are in the hands of a Master when it comes to presenting fanfiction online - Colonel Chris certainly knows her onions - don't panic!
