A Female Counterpart?

I've recently created a female character who I'm using as Captain Scarlet's female counterpart in Fan Fic. But could it be possible for a woman to be like Captain scarlet but not due to being Mysteronized?

Hmm not that I can think of, but then all fanfic is speculation. So if you can think of a way and write it convincingly then go for it.

I'm not crazy about the concept itself anyway, it's so hard to do without the character becoming a Mary Sue.

Intensity - this would be a Fan Fic question.
Which series are you on about?
How would the woman 'be like' Captain Scarlet? Tall, dark and handsome, or indestructible?
I've said before that - for me - Scarlet is unique and I think any other character that shares his 'abilities' makes him a less striking figure and diminishes his 'gift and curse'...
That's my opinion - but others will disagree and if you can write it so that it makes sense of the 'similarities' - Go for it.

Mary Sue, sometimes shortened simply to Sue, is a pejorative term used to describe a fictional character who plays a major role in the plot on such a scale that suspension of disbelief fails due to the character's traits, skills and abilities being tenuously or inadequately justified. Such a character is particularly characterized by overly idealized and clichéd mannerisms, lacking noteworthy flaws, and primarily functioning as wish-fulfillment fantasies for their authors. Perhaps the single underlying feature of all characters described as "Mary Sues" is that they are too ostentatious for the audience's taste, or that the author seems to favor the character too highly. The author may seem to push how exceptional and wonderful the "Mary Sue" character is on his or her audience, sometimes leading the audience to dislike or even resent the character fairly quickly—kind of an "author's pet" effect.

No what i meant Marion, is that she is indestructable but she uses her abilities for bad rather tan good. But I'm not just talking about my character. I mean as a whole. What if a woman was like Captain Scarlet (enhanced abilities or indestructability), how would that happen if she hadn't been mysteronized. What could cause her to have the same strengths and abilities as him but not be weak aganist electricity?

A weird mutation, perhaps? Radioactivity is the good old standby.

Trouble is, I agree that there's enormous potential for this character to be a Mary Sue. Unless treated with great skill and care, Mary Sues are obnoxious and off-putting. I loathe them with a passion.

My odd bursts of ninja googling baffle me sometimes too.

I have a vauge memory of reading a story where a woman [original female character] acquired retrometabolism. Pretty sure she ended up bitten by a snake in the story. Can't for the life of me remember the title or author though. Anyone know?

I believe I read that story too.

I think I might just pull the plug on my idea. I wish I'd never thought of it. It sounds to similar to other ideas.

That doesn't matter, look how many romantic comedies are out there. It's not the idea itself so much as how you take the basic concept and make it your own. Everyone has their own take, that's why it's interesting.

The Character i thought of, Bella Monarch. I created her as a bad girl in a bad world. She was experimented on as a child and escaped. That is her history I created. She then as an adult went on various heists, worked as an assassin for anyone who could pay her high prices. In the story I noted briefly she mets Scarlet by accident. He then learns of her abilities.

That's what I had in mind.

You might want to take a look at Kelly Winkworth's fan fic for NCS, Intensity - if you haven't aleady done that, of course. She creates an Angel who ends up on the Dark Side ( shades of Star Wars !) , who is similar to Scarlet, but for a while is batting for the opposite side, controlled by Capt. Black.

It's an interesting proposition, to say the least ! Quite how this could be achieved without Mysteron influence is hard to say, but if you've been watching "Heroes" ( which I really haven't, so I could be talking rubbish), but I don't think the origin of their various powers is really explained.

Maybe a little mystique is OK in science fic !
