What kind of stories do you like, for a start : in what style, about which characters?
I would suggest you look through the titles list and pick out any that appeal to you regardless of who they are by.
Alternatively, you could pick out one title per author.
Whatever you do, I am sure you will find plenty of good fiction to read and enjoy - I envy you having the opportunity to discover just how varied the subjects are and how excellent the quality is of all the stories listed!
Have fun!

a) They're all good. I couldn't pick out just a few to recommend and
b) Most of the people talking to you here ARE the authors, you know. We all get on quite well together, and to recommend one or two could quite possibly offend a LOT of friends.
I would recommend that you do what I did when I came back after a year offline, and start at 'A' and work your way down alphabetically through titles, which will give you a good feel for the authors. You will have to watch out for sequels this way, though.
However you decide to do it, have fun.

To be honest, I wouldn't be offended if I didn't get a mention, because there are lots of great stories out there, and I know that everyone has their own preference.
But on saying that, I think it's knowing where to begin! I think that I would first recommend 'Spectrum is White' by Chris Bishop (I'm just choosing one per author) 'Two of a Kind' By Lady Hawke (made me cry in places - it's so well written) and 'Do Thunderbolts Strike Twice?' by M J Rudy (one of the first fan fictions I ever read - and still a favourite of mine).
Those are three of my favourites, but there are many more wonderful stories out there, created by very talented authors. I decided to list three, by three different authors, so as not to be here all day.
Cheers!
