Custom 1993 Vivid Imaginations Captain Scarlet figures
Moderator: Spectrum Strike Force
I'm Dan, I live in England now but was born and raised in Ireland, and I've been lurking around here for years, but I thought, why not join, and share some of the stuff I've been doing! On my last trip around here I found Kambei's superb custom Captain Scarlet figures, and I thought (as someone who's done a few custom action figures in the past) that it would be a great challenge to make something similar.
It sat in my mind for awhile, till it occurred to me, the original puppets had similar body builds, if not the same body sculpts, why not get a bunch of the 1990's Vivid imaginations Captain Scarlet and Blue action figures, readily available on your friendly neighbourhood online auction site for peanuts, and repaint them for whoever I wanted. I drew up a list, then started buying supplies, the obvious necessities were all the main Captain's not made, Grey, Ochre, and Magenta (no way in hell I'm paying £30+ for an original!), Dr Fawn, the Angels, some guards for cannon fodder, and Brown and Indigo. I'm still ticking names of that list, but here's my first batch, “wave one” if you will. Almost hilariously, my eyes are a bit strange when it comes to colour, some browns look darker or lighter than they should, so bare that in mind! Any feedback is greatly appreciated, it's my first attempt at 3.5 inch figures and any advice on improving is welcome! So, without further ado,

Captain Ochre

Dr Fawn, with medical scanner ( a cell phone from an X-Files figure) and a medical kit (a Star Trek engineering tool case I had spare). His coat/operating gown is “borrowed” from a staff of Ra Indiana Jones figure.

World President Younger
And as an added bonus, I was damn annoyed Vivid imaginations in 2001 never made a Micro Lt Green, particularly as Cloudbase had his station, and every single Scarlet micro figure was a repaint of Scarlet anyway. Here's what I did:

Wave two, coming soon!

As far as I know, Vivid Imagination made a mini Lt Green in the 90s - I even have one somewhere in my collection. I didn't know about 2003 though. Were the models re-released?
Good look with Wave 2...

Vivid imginations did make a regular , 3.5 inch tall Green for the 1993 line, but never one of the tiny, 5cm or so tall micro figures for the 2000's soundtech SPV, Angel, and Cloudbase, which is what I made (I wish they did make some proper classic Scarlet figures in the 2000's, though) . I must admit, however, that despite having Blue, Black, Scarlet, and White as a kid, I was oblivious to Green's existence as an action figure till I started making these!
Wave two!

Captain Grey

Captain Magenta (really happy with the head, I think I got a good likeness of Patrick. The uniform colour needs a lot of work though)

Captain Black (corrected the missing white colouring on his uniform, and I lightly smudged black paint on his face to give him his trademark look)
And a quite shot of some of my Spectrum staff on patrol:

That's it for now, I've got two more to post with what I have, but I'll have lots more coming up after.
