Why do they put SPVs in such odd places?

According to Captain Scarlet in (I think) "Fire at Rig 15", "All [Spectrum's] SPVs and other equipment is scattered all over the world". Througout the series we see a few SPVs at least that are scattered here and there in trucks, caravans, shacks, oil tanks etc

Now, heres something I've wondered for a while. In several episodes Scarlet, Blue or whoever fly down from Cloudbase in an SPJ, so presumably they land at an airport/airfield somewhere. Then they're shown driving a SSC, sometimes quite a distance to collect an SPV. But why do they bother? Why couldn't they just put the SPVs where they keep the SSCs so it's quicker for them to get to in an emergency?

Presumably the distribution of the SPVs was part-strategic, part-'misinformation'. We saw in 'Special Assignment' that certainly some underworld types (albeit Mysteronised) would like to get their hands on an SPV, so as well as having them located at what might be called 'strategic hotspots', there were a number that were moved from place to place in mock trailers and the like on a continuing basis. On the entertainment side, it was a good visual gimmick, and of course kiddies all over the country could pretend their garage/playhouse/school/tree/pet dog etc housed a secret SPV!

I felt that 'New Captain Scarlet' actually improved on this slightly unusual premise with the usage of rapid deployment Albatross flight carriers.

When I ran APA-Century 21, my contribution was titled "SPV Pickup Point 101" (the address of my office was 101 N. Broad St.). My logo was an SPV smashing through the building facade, and in my contribution I usually made some reference either to the repair bills for the building or the job of maintaining, cleaning etc. the SPV after a mission, before a "surprise" inspection (one of the captains gave me a head's-up ) etc. The cleanings usually involved my grumbling about removing beach sand, cat hair, etc. from the seats, and since the SPV was based in Philadelphia it had one particular item between the seat cushions: pretzel salt...

I never thought of that; but looking over the cross-section drawings indeed there are no cupholders to be seen in the SPV, MSV or saloon. Which is terrible, I mean we wouldn't want our fearless captains to get dehydrated now would we?

That said I do recall Grey having a tipple of some description whilst riding in the tanker in 'winged assasin', though of course you don't see him actually drinking it.

Scarlet tucks in to something like satay (on a stick)in 'Attack on Cloudbase' - we see the characters all sitting to breakfast in 'Fire at Rig 15', the Angels and Scarlet and Blue strut their stuff at a cocktail party in 'Model Spy' and Scarlet and Blue have just finished a meal at the start of 'Inquisition' - so I don't suppose they go without
And of course - everyone gets plastered in 'Flight to Atlantica'...

LOL I love the idea of spectrum issue picnic hampers; they must surely be provided with some kind of food rations in case of getting stranded or whatever.

I wouldn't mind a pink hamper... I'd prefer a black one though

What I am unsure of is the 'colour-coded hampers' would only be for Scarlet, Blue.... Magenta etc. as there would be major cofusion between the Angels as to which hamper belongs to whom.
(in case anybody doesn't know what I'm talking about: ... correct me if I'm wrong)... the Angels all have the same coloured uniform

The Angels rarely drive SPVs - see Symphony's confession in 'Manhunt' - and they never fly SPJs.
They do fly other planes, before anyone mentions it, but not SPJs... at least, not on TV.

Maybe the angels hampers are monogramed (with their code names).
