The Best Spectrum member (OCS)
Moderator: Spectrum Strike Force
I was looking at the Angel one and thought I'd do one for the guys as it were. It's mainly to see who everyone's favourite is. So consider it a favourite character poll. I have a fair idea who people will vote for and indeed, I know you know who I'll vote for. This is different to the poll on the FanFic Forum as this is not who you rather vote for but who is your favourite character.
Right, on with the show!
P.S Black's included even if the poll is headed for Spectrum characters

As he is a very capable officer in the series itself, always a great character to write, and yes for some shallow girly reasons too.
I like Magenta equally, but that's only really because of the fanfic. He really wasn't very well characterised in the show.
Blue, well sure. Who doesn't like Blue? I'll just ditto Marion in advance

I'm really getting to like Grey. He's a bit neglected for being so quiet; but I think he has a lot of potential.
I've always liked White; with his dry wit and suitably commanding charismatic aura.
Green is fab too, he needs more love.
So yes I like them all; aside from Scarlet because he irritates* me, and Black because he didn't really get any characterisation to make him likeable.
*though fun to torture, and becomes inexplicably endearing when paired up - hurt/comfort is a beautiful thing.

You voted in the Forum FanFic poll about who'd you rather write about.
I'd rather write about the character I like best... which is what I do - most of the time...

However, I do think that 'best' doesn't always mean 'favourite'. In this case, the title of this thread, and the title of this poll do not refer to the same thing.
The Best Spectrum MEMBER, in either OCS or NCS, has always been Captain Scarlet - and that is according to Colonel White himself. He's part of nearly every missions (not counting fanfiction), he's the ultimate soldier (according to his personal record), a master of arms, AND his uniqueness (indestructibility, sixth sense...) makes him THE most important asset against the Mysterons.
The best character depends on the development of said character in the series, and that point iof who s quite debatable as it mostly depends on the use that was made of each of these characters. Still not counting fanfiction, the characters mostly used were Captain Scarlet, Captain Blue, Colonel White and Lieutenant Green. Symphony and Destiny made more appearances than their fellow Angels on TV, although Rhapsody would be rather close to them if considering other medias, such as comic strips, novels and audio adventures.
We might also consider Captain Black, if we speak in terms of 'character', but certainly not as 'Spectrum member'. As a character, Black was superbly portrayed, in both the OCS and NCS series, even if they were handled differently from each other. The coldness of OCS Black renders the character as interesting as the sarcasm and cynism of NCS Black, making each of them a wonderful force to reckon with.
If a hero should be measured by the strength of his most evil opponent, then Captain Scarlet must be quite the hero. He's got MY vote for best character, although, as you might suspect, I'm really biased on the subject. In all fairness, it would be difficult to really determine a 'best character' between Scarlet, Blue, White and Black.
Because he's easily THE BEST villain I had ever seen on TV (and other media) - it would probably be Captain Black.

However, in reply to Chris's post and Scarlet. You wonder before the Mars episode and its immediate follow-up (in show terms, not actual timescale) how far down the pecking order Scarlet might have been - Cpt Black was chosen to lead the Mars Expedition, and Captain Brown was put in charge of the mission with the World President although it was his first 'big' assignment. Perhaps the selections where down to the missions in question - Black with Mars due to his previous experience on Fireball XL3, although as an electronics expert, I still think Lt Green should have been on that mission! (mind you, he might not have come back!)

NOoooooooo!

On the other hand, it might be considered that if Green had been in charge of the Mars mission, his reaction to the discovery of the Mysteron Complex might have been different from Black's.
Of course, that's always considering if the Mysterons were actually as guiltiless as we are led to believe in the first episode... Perhaps something else might have happened that would have caused the War of Nerves...

I wasnt suggesting Green as the leader of the mission (should have made that a bit clearer sorry!), I'd still have gone with Black leading the expedition, but similar to Crater 101 and Lunarville 7 - as there were three crewmembers in the vehicle Black, Lt. Dein (and I dont know the name of the third crewmember!) - replace one of them with Lt. Green.

Most of the characters, outside of the Big 4 (Scarlet, Blue, White and Green) and Symphony and, to a lesser extent, Destiny - hardly have characters at all. The only other one who does is Captain Magenta - and he is the base clown. (Talking OCS here)
You could even say - and I will before anyone else does - that Blue hardly displays much character - he is the perfect sidekick for Scarlet and that's about it - except where Symphony is concerned, of course... aah, bless!
