Fallen Angels
Moderator: Spectrum Strike Force
Plus, my newly re-kindled hatred of all things Angel-y means that I find it hard to watch...
I really have no idea whether some of the 'Little Things' are actually 'Cons'...
Pros
1. Beginning. As in, up to the start of the fight and flight thing. Ochre getting annoyed by Blue =

BTW, Ochre's book is 'Instrument of Destruction'. Obviously, Whites running a lending library on the side of his Spectrum work.

2. 'You bet I'm jealous!' Oh, away with you! I love this line...
3. Green has even more fantastic facial expressions in this episode. When she says to Scarlet 'All they're gonna need is some sunscreen', she looks so smug.
Cons
1. Switched off during the dogfight. I always do that. Plane fights just don't interest me.
2. Too Angel filled!! Too much Destiny and co.!
3. The talk about Scarlets 'butt'. Oh purlease, do we really need to know?
4. 'Mmm...as Blue as your eyes...' NOOOO!!!! Please, no!! I HATE that line, it's so sickly!! Thing that makes it better though is the fact that, afterwards, Scarlet sort of looks like he rolls his eyes...
Bloopers
1. The zips on the Angels G-suits. They appear solely for this episode, but keep disappearing all the time. They also zip and unzip by themselves...
Little Things
1.Does Harmony call Melody 'Melanie', when Destiny is coming in for a crash landing? Either that or she's got a cold.
2. Why do Harmony and Destiny both have cream T-shirts, but Melody has black? Not that it matters, but still...
3. 'Garbage'. The stuff that was nicked from the ship by the pirates...I would not call that garbage!

4. Green and Scarlet seem to be shooting each other funny looks during this one. Why?
5. How the hell did the Angels miss the volcano when they were zooming around above it in the Falcons? They sound surprised when they find it on the island. It's a volcano!! They're very, very big!!
6. I checked subtitles. Turns out that pirate woman's called Vana (Or however you spell it). And, for the record, I think she looks most like Ochre, only more masculine...though there are touches of Harmony, Melody and even Silver in there too.
7. The boat the pirates attacked is a research boat, by a company called 'Four Feathers'. Four Feather Falls, anyone?

Rating: 7/10

The Animation - You know, there is some really good stuff in this one, as usual but I found some not so good stuff as well. At one point the palm trees are pulsating in the background - I guess it was supossed to be wind.
Other - The camera seems to be more active in this one with plenty of close-up following going on. Adds some energy to the story.
The Ongoing Tally -
On screen Death Count - 4 deaths -(The pirates) and 4 Vampire Pilots (I am sure they have run out of those by now.)
One of the pirates falls off the cliff. Destiny falls as well but must have a mechanical leg to not have broken hers.

My problem is that there is no valid Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons storyline here at all and that this just seems to be a vehicle to make the Angels look clever and superior. It’s almost as if Gerry Anderson had insisted on an episode showcasing the female contingent of NCS.
Having said that, the final result seems to achieve the opposite effect. The Angels came across as if they had been motion captured by the same artist. Admittedly, they look and move really well but there was no individuality at all. The way they ran together, fell backwards together (due to an explosion) and laughed at the same time made them seem like identical triplets!
By contrast, I really quite liked the characters and animation of O’Brien, Kreuger and Chang – particularly the first two although Chang moved really well. I didn’t like the characterisation of Vane although her brown/blue eye combination seemed to be a nod to David Bowie who also suffered an eye injury (I am a fan – of Bowie, not eye injuries!).
The forest floor and lighting were superbly realised. This episode is full of wonderful attention to detail and I only recently noticed the dolphins or porpoises rolling as the Angels jet-skied to the pirate ship. On the flip side, what on earth happened to Melody’s accent which changed a number of times during the episode! Does she do requests?

I noticed them ages ago, but was talking to my mom without pausing the DVD when the end was on, thus forgot to...er hum...write it down on my sheet of paper.
Is that sad, to write them down?

If three of your 'colleagues' crash landed on an island and were also allowed to spend time there until aircraft were available to pick them up... wouldn't you be jealous?
But, yes I love that line too... and the way she said it
that's madness with a little 'm'... as in 'crazy'...

At present I don't have all the episodes on DVD, so it's possible I've missed an episode or two in which this happens and is an aspect of the CGI series.
"Okay, lieutenant, let them have it!"

As far as I can remember, this doesn't happen in any other CGI episode.
This may have been done as it may have been easier to do than having to design and draw green-swirly-things (technical term

Now, if you had a show called Destiny angel and the mysterons (or something along those lines) then this would be a GREAT episode but no...the series is called NEW CAPTAIN SCARLET see the different name there? He's not even in it that much and I think Spectrum are a bit mean not sending anyone to "rescue" the angels, I'm sure they had at least ONE aircraft going spare on Skybase...but just because this ep doesn't feature heavily on the man in red doesn't mean I don't like it...it's quite a good episode in itself, the effects are good and the landscape and there are a few good fights in there as well...but of course this ISN'T an NCS episode, it's almost as if it's a spin off for the angels, okay perhaps if there was a third series then I would excuse this episode but the point is there are only 26 episodes and to have one just featuring the angels seems like a bit of a waste. To be honest I enjoyed this ep more the first time round but it's still quite enjoyable on re-watches
