random ponderings

and every time Scarlet reminds him, often sharply, "you know I'm right, Adam" or "you know the situation" that he should be the one to go...presumably because he knows there is a high chance of him getting killed or at least seriously injured.
In The Landing I get the feeling that Blue enjoys shocking President Roberts at the end. The pres saying "i only wish Scarlet was still here so I could thank him' and Blue saying "but you can!" and then presenting Scarlet to the stunned President.
Maybe after the hard time Spectrum had getting the pres to take the threat seriously they decided to give him shock, albeit a good one. But I found that end scene quite amusing and I think our heros had fun with it.
Several other episodes, Flight 104 comes to mind, have Blue sounding confident that all will be fine when other people are convinced Scarlet is dead or beyond repair. Over time I would think Blue learned to be less anxious. He doesn't want his friend hurt unnecessarily but when I think each time Scarlet dies/gets serious injured it is less of a shock. probably true for both of them.
I would think that Blue sees part of his role as partner as bringing Scarlet's battered remains back to base, much as Scarlet would bring a battered Blue back. Scarlet just gets battered more, more often, and to a greater extent.
I did wonder, again in The Trap, when they show Scarlet in the back of the hellicopter, what Blue had to do to get him out from the underneath the rubble of the castle, but I am happy to just accept that somehow he did. Some of the finer mechanical details I just don' t worry about.
I think that as long as our two heros are mutually supportive they handle it OK most of the time. I still think Scarlet needs some extra counseling but a good friend can get you a long way.
and i am stubbornly going to refuse to think about what Scarlet will go through when Blue dies.
nope, not going to do it (covering ears, closing eyes) i don' t think about Scarlet to get myself upset and depressed.
The rest of you can discuss that. maybe at some much later date I'll join in but not now.

I think the loss of his closest friends and his family will be something Scarlet finds hard to cope with, but - being Scarlet - he will find a way.

Yes he'll come back but everytime he gets shot, blown up etc, he feels it. No one could get used to that, no matter how indestructible you are. Pain is one thing that makes us human, the Mysterons don't feel pain but we do.
Mysterons don't feel pain?
they sometimes yell when they are shot/electrocuted.

A bullet will hurt you, you will feel the pain, but in a matter of hours you will have recovered.
There are 2 occasions in the OCS TV episodes where we see post-Mysteronisation Scarlet grimacing with pain.

I suppose it was difficult to show human suffering and conflicting emotions when showing marionettes fashioned (albeit brilliantly) in the sixties. Poor Sarlet didn't have much choice but to display a stiff upper lip, because other expressions were denied him !
NCS had a better shot at it and did well to deal with Scarlet's vulnerable side, although had the episodes been longer, the characters would have been more well-rounded. OCS Blue is thoughtful, disciplined and caring, a good foil to Scarlet's more gung-ho nature.
The positions are somewhat reversed in NCS. Scarlet comes over as by far the more sensitive and thoughtful of the two, but it seems that once Blue has decided he's on the side of the good-guys, his loyalty is unswerving. His more breezy upbeat attitude is probably what Scarlet needs to combat what must be overwhelming depression at times.

And here is a thought, if Captain Scarlet from OS can fall from so high up, and we know he's a really toughy, how would NCS Scarlet cope, he seems to be weaker than his predecessor.
There's something else, surely after beinging killed, and feeling it, waking up must be a bit scary, knowing that you died, that anyone else in your situation would be dea for good, but knowing that your body would always recover, isn't that enough for anyone to lose touch with themeselves, to feel alien in their own skins, like they're a walking talking robot?

The position is a little less clear in NCS - He's often apparently mortally wounded, but is never really pronounced dead ( other than in the first episode). I suspect the producers didn't want to complicate things for the kiddie-winkies on Saturday mornings.
What's this about NCS being weaker !

He does die a couple of times more.
In Touch of the Reaper, he dies near the end.
And in Trap For A Rhino he seems to die in Destiny's arms, I could be wrong.
He certainly gets bunked off in Shape Shifter, he is shot three times by himself.

.... and therefore not the stiff upper lip Brit that OCS Scarlet is

(I have seen the episode, but...) Scarlet shoots himself?! Three times?! (I didn't realise it was that many) I'd have thought he would've learnt after shooting himself the first time!

*cough*

that's madness with a little 'm'... as in 'crazy'...

Now here's a point, do you reckon Scaret will dream about a recent death he's suffered or not? Alright nightmare then, dreaming about being killed isn't a very nice dream!!

I would think that he probably would have nightmares about his multiple deaths - after all, dreams are the subconscious' way of dealing with the events of the day.

But I suppose once he's thought over the nightmare, he can put the death into retrospect.
