The Storm At The End Of The World.

Loved the Dreznik opening sequence.
The townsfolk were proper creepy!
And the ending really had me going there for a while!
Now there's just 4 more episodes to go.

We'll only have to watch MOM 4 more times!!

Yea I thought Blue was a goner there too. I tought maybe he becomes a mysteron replicant who ends up like Scarlet or somthing.
The coffie knocking them out reminded me of OCS "The Inquesistion" and Scarlet using rocks to blind teh gard is from "The Achilles Messenger" & Scalret hiding in the snow is what Black did in "Mercury Falling".

I thought it was a good story, with excellent action scenes being played out at a really fast pace. The snow-bike scenes were really good. It's a such a shame there couldn't have been another ten minutes to pad some of it out more!!
I did think Blue and Scarlet were very lucky to escape from the mine without lasering off a hand, and Scarlet did an incredible job blasting those timers on the roller-coaster mine ride!!
As a parent I have to say I wasn't impressed with MoM for not cutting the scene where Scarlet breaks someones' neck. Anyone out there know if any of it was cut? There was enough left to hear the crack. Having said that it was all done so quickly I don't think my kids actually noticed.
(Uh oh, that Mysteronized coffee is getting around a bit now...)

The townspeople, yes, creepy - did that little boy remind anyone else of Joe McClaine, particularly from behind?
The identical twin sister of that naughty scientist lady from Mercury Falling seemed to be living in Ragnorak...even wearing the same clothes, I think...
Liked Blue referencing Quatermass and the Pit...
The whole 'meteorite spores' thing didn't go very far - presumably the thing was blown up either in the diner or on the plane, so the spores must have scattered into the air, but no one seemed bothered...
The ending...I wish he had died. Not because I don't like the big dumb guy, but because it would have been such a shock. As it is, it was a bit of a cheat.
No-one on the Spectrum rescue team seemed to feel the cold in just their body armour...and lucky they brought Gold along...

Katy from the Cafe looked like a podgy version of Destiny (and HURRAY - not a sign of her this week - keep up the good work!)
And - this is the big question - why didn't they kill Blue with the coffee instead of just knocking them both out? (You'd have thought anything powerful enough to knock Scarlet out might have been lethal to a normal person anyway...) or why, when they had them both prisoner - didn't they kill Blue? (There were episodes in the classic series where that question could have been asked too... and presumably the answer is - because he's a regular cast member - but it does rather leave holes in the plotlines.)
Nice inter-action between Blue and Scarlet - even if Blue did go all noble again and was typically gung-ho, even as he lay dying ....
I agree - the 'what happened to alien spores' issue was not dealt with very well...but maybe we are to presume that - as they are still in the frozen wastes of Alaska, they won't be able to infect anyone due to the cold. Also that any surviving bodies from the crash would be 'disposed of' very carefully?

Anyone else think that that Mysteron woman who stepped over the camera when all the replicants went outside looked like Captain Ochre?

Episode 23: THE STORM AT THE END OF THE WORLD
Scarlet and Blue track a rogue Russian Druzynik tank into Alaska and discover an entire town that’s been taken over by the Mysterons. Then Scarlet is forced to make a life or death choice between his friend and the future of the entire human race!

It's a long time since I did any science, but wouldn't incineration have dealt with them?

It really kept you guessing as to Blue's fate BUT....
"They left me here because they knew you'd be coming...."
If the Mysterons knew Spectrum would be turning up (and that's pretty much a given), why leave a battle tank unguarded and with the keys still in the ignition?
Why did Spectrum send just TWO agents in a Hummingbird, of all things? Remember, "nothing touches these things", as far as these tanks are concerned and Hummingbirds are armed with a pretty puny minigun. No Angel support; not even an Albatross or two. The tank could have taken care of the copter quite easily.
As has been mentioned, why not kill Scarlet and Blue with the dodgy coffee, or at least while they're unconscious? Why leave them tied up in front of a timed bomb, Dr Evil stylee, instead of giving them a bullet to the head?
If the Mysterons were after just one chunk of spore-fed meteorite and knew where it was, why was everyone tidying up the debris into the mine cars? It looked like there was plenty of room around the cavern to me...
Apart from that: nice effects as usual. Another example of an episode crying out for 45 minutes air-time, I thought.
Could Blue have popped? Well, given that there are no more episodes planned as far as we know, I think the producers could have taken a risk, so I think the answer may be yes (but probably not!).
Agree about the neck-break. How did THAT get past??

Also knowing MOM, killing Blue would have meant that next week they'd show an episode out of order where he's suddenly alive again.

Still, if the final episode leaves the series open-ended and the war still in progress, we could stick this episode last and say that he did die...

Pretty ruthless episode with villagers being machine gunned down and the village being destroyed twice. The neck breaking was a bit too far - even prime time television usually mute the sound of necks breaking.
When an episode is this good, I generally don't have any major problems with the inconsistancies. Why are heroes never killed when the villians get a chance?

Plus:
Great effects as usual. Loved the camera angles that were simulated.
After Fallen Angels, welcome Destiny relief!
Uncompromisingly brutal - episode had a high death count - though still less then Winged Assassin, though it was more graphic.
Theme of an infectious virus suitably scary and very topical
For a moment you though Blue was going to die - gripping stuff.
Minus
We have seen several times now Spectrum staff being tied up incompetently next to ticking bombs only to escape (instead of being simply shot). The first time I could suspend disbelief, but am a bit tired of it now.
Cheesy dialogue as Blue lay 'dying' and that 'he's a fighter' line from Gold. Straight out of an action movie book of cliches.
But once again, a job well done!
